Gun Cleaning Recommendations for a Ruger 10/22
This involves a heavily customized 10/22 with a .920" EXPENSIVE bull barrel.
That said I have an obvious interest in preserving the wire edge and crown,
it already has an 11 degree recessed muzzle so what is the general thought
on the best way to clean this barrel? I do NOT want to have to disassemble
this beast every time it may need cleaning nor do I wish to drill a hole in the
receiver rear surface with one of the Brownell's jigs made for this purpose
so, I seem to have two options, one to use an Otis kit or a Lyman bore snake
and clean from the rear or to use one of the Dewey muzzle guides that fully
enclose the muzzle to support the cleaning rod and prevent muzzle to rod contact, here is what those look like: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/647039/dewey-heavy-duty-muzzle-bore-guide-ruger-10-22-920-diameter-barrel?cm_vc=S016ID757643
For those of you with experience with such I'd greatly appreciate some feedback,
thanks in advance.

Depending on your desired use of the rifle, you may not hav to deep clean it often. For that I would disassemble it. For everything else I would use an Otis kit or something similar.
I definitely would not want to drill a hole in the receiver!

That muzzle bore guide may not be a bad option though.

Find some drinking straws that fit inside muzzle at the crown walmart has plenty cut them 2 inches long put about 1 inch inside bore then cleaning rod goes the straw never touching crown I use the bendable kind so I will have a stop to push straw against works perfect

I should have mentioned in the OP that I already have two Dewey bore guides,
one for a factory barrel and one for the a.920" bull barrel but just don't yet have
an Otis or Lyman kit. Alton's idea sounds good too IF I can find straws that small.
I will be using the rifle as my tool for .22lr F-Class once its fully assembled with
all the custom parts so I still have to decide on a cleaning regimen of which there
are as many thoughts on that matter as there are shooters.
Thanks for the fast feedback folks, I'll be interested to hear any other ideas as
they come along.

You need to post details on your build!

As requested!! The only original part on the rifle will be the receiver, the magazines
and the pins holding the trigger group in the rifle and the sole screw holding the
action to the stock.
Barrel is a 20" Kidd .920" Black Diamond coated bead blasted.
Bolt is also a Kidd, also Black Diamond coated with Kidd's firing pin and extractor
Cocking handle is also Kidd in the black though its anodized not coated.
Guide rod and recoil spring and recoil buffer are all Kidd. ( I know, I'm in a rut here!! )
Trigger group is the Kidd 2 stage adjustable trigger with the speed handle option on
the magazine release.
Scope base is a Kidd picatinny rail with Leupold QRW rings 30mm high,
scope itself for now will be a Vortex 6-24x50mm with a 4" sunshade.
Stock is a Hogue Overmolded model in Tan camo and at first unless it becomes
necessary to alter my approach, it will have a Harris S class bipod.
I'll post a picture or two once its completed, just waiting on the rings and scope
to arrive.

Re: Gun Cleaning Recommendations for a Ruger 10/22
I am a KIDD fan, several people on other forums heavily recommended them when I first
began selecting the pieces parts for the 10/22 makeover so I ordered the bolt and barrel
first and was so impressed with the workmanship that I went back to them for the trigger
group and other small parts. KIDD uses blanks from Lothar Walther at NECG, the same
source Clark uses for his barrels and I know how good they are, so.............
If you're interested in looking over his product line, he has two websites listing the
same line: www.coolguyguns.com and
www.kiddinnovativedesign.com
They have been very nice to deal with over this past year I've been acquiring the parts
for this build. Kidd doesn't make the only good trigger group for a 10/22 but his is the
only one I'm aware of that is 2 stage and adjustable. I do believe however that his
barrels may be very nearly the best out there.
