Gun safe: single gun safe to store loaded.
Does anyone have experience with the Gun Vault MicroVault? Or other recommendations?
http://www.gunvault.com/handgun-safes/microvault.html
I'm not looking to debate a safe or no safe. I want a safe place to store loaded firearm at house when I'm not wearing it (I have young kids and they have friends). Also, I travel a lot and sometimes need to leave it in hotel room as I cannot carry to work location.
Features I'm looking for:
Portable
Quick access
Lockout feature, timed but not requiring key.
Ability to tell you if attempts have been made.
Also thoughts on biometric versus combo? I'm leaning towards combo.

I have a MicroVault 300, it's the combo lock version. Nice product, but only meets the portable and quick access portions of your criteria.
It's a nice product for what it is intended to do, deter the curious. If someone is determined to gain access to the contents inside they sure won't be deterred for long.
I'd think your kids would possibly try to access the contents, say trying various combinations, but would stop short of taking a crowbar to it, so in that sense it would keep the contents out of their hands.

I looked at the nanovault 300 as well. Thinking I may want just a little more.
I find myself not carrying because of hassle of unloading, etc with kids in house. I'm thinking this may be a solution for easy storage in house.

I don't have any kids, but I'd have to agree it would probably be a solution.CinBrandon wrote:Jdphotguy:

got two sizes of their safe. keypad is nice but keyed can be same practicality if your not allergic to keys as i am..lol. all kidding aside, both work the same for security, keyless is about triple the cost for the convenience.
the way to run the keyed i saw was to store the key in the lock other than the times it needed to be locked up from little hands.

Thanks RCpylon. I want the keypad convenience... don't want to be looking for a key all the time, or when i need it.
Any recommended dealer?

I have the Mini Standard that I keep on my bedside table because I have a 2 1/2 year old boy that likes to meddle in things. I like it. Practice opening it in the dark as it took me a few practice rounds to really feel comfortable with it enough to know that I will be able to do it quickly.

Thanks EagleChains. I like the mini, but want something that can travel as well.
I think i've decided on the MicroVault. No to just choose between finger-combo and bio-metric.

I had the mictovault. Liked it at first but keeping it in the car getting stepped on by the kids etc made short work of the electronic keypad. Finally after using it as a key only box for a year or so i dropped the key in it and dropped the lid all in one swoop locking me and my gun out and my key in. Pried it open (not easy), got my stuff out and trashed it. Ordered a nano 200 and havent looked back. No keypad to fail, affordable, and i cant accidently lock the key inside because of the type of lock it uses. Ive got 2 of em and love em. Little smallerthan i want but i can live with it.
If you get the micro, make SURE you keep the kids feet off of it and dont drop it. That keypad is fragile in my experience
