storing/filing firearms info

Post by dhollis51 on Mon Jan 02, 2012 10:12 pm

did I see on here a while back where someone had a program where you can store serial #'s and photos of your firearms that you own? I have them on a spreadsheet but dont have the pictures attached as well. If not is there a program that I could buy that would organize all the info that would be needed incase of fire, theft, or any other reason you would need all the info on them.

Thanks

DH

There is a good program out there, i first saw it in the outdoor section on pirate 4x4... they are down right now or id post a link. When it comes back up i will post the link. Im buying a copy of this software soon, the guy is real open to suggestions on how to improve it and makes constant updates.

If you have an iPhone or other smart phone, there is probably an app for that. I know the iPhone has Range Buddy, Gun Tool Box and I'm sure others

I keep photos with serial numbers on two zip drives.

One is hidden in the safe, another in my locker at the station.

Not to savy when it comes to ms access, never heard of that one. Might just have to start splitting them up in different files and go from there but I swear I saw somewhere a program people were using/ralking about.

Put the info in the cloud. Just create a photobucket account and put the serial numbers in the album title or as a caption. You can mark the account private where no one else can see it.

I like the looks of that program. It looks like an access database. Does anyone know if there is an English version.

I've heard of the "cloud" but know nothing about it. Is this something that can't be hacked to get the info? Also how secure is a photobucket account?

The "cloud" just means it is stored on an internet site. For instance if you have a Yahoo or hotmail email account, your email is stored in the cloud. It's as secure as your password, I guess.

Some people are jittery about posting pics of their firearms on the net with the serial number but in reality on all the firearms forums I've visited, I've never heard of serial number information being used for nefarious purposes. Heck if someone wanted a picture and serial number list they could easily mine the gun auction sites.

I made a VERY simple one in Access today. It is similar to the one above, but dumber. It can be done, and even displays the image.
It took a few minutes, but was free to me.
Just figured I would throw that out there.

I downloaded one a month or so ago. I have an older version of access, so I coulnd't use it. I can find it if you want to try it. I use a spreadsheet and then photos of a jump drive.
