Handguard Work

Post by IslandTimes on Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:17 pm

Received a new metal quadrail handguard for Christmas for my deawoo, but have found it to be a little heavier than I'd like. There's a fair bit of metal on the guard itself, and the rails are pretty thick and heavy too, so I think someone could mill slots in it to reduce weight.

So, my question is, who do y'all recommend that I can take the handguard to that has the knowledge and skill to do it right?

I'm in Pascagoula for the next couple weeks, but will be up in Oxford after that.

Bakers machine shop in Pascagoula should be able to do it. Or maybe the Machine shop class at MGCCC Jackson County Campus. Mr. Showah the instructor is a great guy. He might mill it out for you.

With the cost of machine work it might be cheaper to sell that one and buy a lighter one. thinking

I would do that, except only two guys make handguards for the daewoo, and the other one is an even heavier design.

Haha, probably the best solution!

But yeah, it's a DR200. Here's a picture of what she looks like now. Still needs a comp, but after that, should be about done.

Actually made that one today. The grey is 3/4 inch wide and the black is 1 inch wide. It's adjustable from about 32 to 48 inches. Made from over 50 feet of cord. Funny you noticed that, been thinking about making and selling them.
