Gallery of guns and gold n guns pawn

Post by Myers on Wed Jan 04, 2012 1:01 pm

I have been in the market for a ruger 22/45. Was looking for a certain model in Particular and so I did my research online figured out pricing and what not and decided what I was willing to pay out the door. I decided to give some local guys a swing first to support them. Nobody had one and said their distributors were all out of stock. So I go look at gallery of guns see the price I was willing to pay through gold n guns pawn. I accept the offer and pay my deposit. I call today to see what I needed to do, and the guy tells me I owe them the difference plus 30$ for a transfer fee. Wtf? Gallery of guns (davidsons) is one of their distributors, why are they charging me a transfer fee? It wOuld be one thing if I bought it from gunbroker or buds an had it shipped to them. My understanding was that buying through GOG was like buying directly from them. I could have bought the gun from buds, had it shipped and transferred for slightly less than I had originally thought I was paying. Instead I chose to keep my money local. The gun hasn't come in yet, but we will be having a chat about it. Has anyone else had any experience with this?

No no. The difference is what I expected. I paid a deposit online that they get a check for. And I pay the rest to them. All in all it was about 320$ for the gun. Now they want to charge me another 30$ on top of that to "transfer" a gun that might as well had been bought in their shop.

Steve is my go to guy for transfers for sure. But I was actually trying to buy the gun itself locally. I could have bought it from buds and had Steve do the transfer for a little less overall

Gotcha now. You're right that would be logical, but most shops are weird like that....they expect you to pay them full price, just to wait for months on end, instead of going over their heads with it to get it sooner

Call Davidson's. Tell them what happened. Ask if that's normal. If so they need a disclaimer on their website. I suspect they will not be happy with guns and gold.

I thought Gallery of Guns listed all the fees? My dealer uses it and he said that he has to supply the pricing level and total fees so that what you see on the quote page is the total.

Called gallery of guns. They sent the info over to gold n guns account rep. She said there aren't supposed to be any hidden fees.

Just got a call back from gold n guns. He apologized for the mixup. He thought it was a regular transfer from somewhere else. Problem solved. Thanks for the suggestion to call davidsons I didn't even think of that.

It sure is handy for comparing prices if you are just out right going to buy something without a trade-in. Good thing they don't have Sigs on there or I'd be broke(r).

I have been tempted a couple of times with GoG. Glad to know exactly how it works now.

You guys are right, GOG should give you a total for what it will cost. There are no hidden fees for the dealer to collect when you pick up the firearm.
I have not set up my GOG account yet but have spoke with my rep at Davidsons about it and will have it established soon.

Regards,

I hate to be negative, but I wonder how often Gold n Guns has "mix-ups" to add an extra $30 to their pockets. It seems like it would be pretty clear.

I wanted to avoid making any outright accusations, but seeing as the guy went through the entire process with me about how gallery of guns works and then tells me I owe a 30$ fee, I am obviously suspect of his "mix-up". I was treated with respect and courtesy when I went in to pick it up, but I'll definitely think twice before doing business with them again.

Maybe it's just me, but $30 for an FFL transfer fee is ridiculous.

In fact, I just bought this fun little toy and would use Gold and Guns for my transfer if they didn't charge the obscene price of $30.
