That project (if done) is 10+ years out. What you are looking at is a Master Plan (Big Wish List) of projects. In about 5 years we will need to recheck it................

Hwy 4 is supposed to come through my front yard for the past 10 years, but that hasn't happened yet. Apparently lots of 10 year plans are out there.

That one and the Airport Parkway are suppose to be a toll roads. Don't see the need for a road from downtown to the airport anyway. IDK I will never pay to ride on a road,we already pay enough.

A lot of the roads on the list are dreams. They won't be built without a lot of Federal matching funds.

eh not gonna happen

turning it into a toll road would imply that the state would actually have to MAINTAIN its roadways!

have any of yall been down Florence-Byram lately heading to the Mag from Florence/Richland? After that big storm a couple weeks ago it left potholes that looked like they were about 4" deep. they "fixed them now", but neither county, nor the state is willing to invest enough money into that road or any other non-interstate/highway to actually go through with that plan.

heck, they've been at a standstill repaving highway 49 since JULY!!!!!

The toll funds would just wind up disappearing like the funds from that tax the state charges for more risky vehicles(motorcycles, atvs, etc), that are supposedly going towards a trauma center that none of us will ever see built in our lifetime.

That's the problem, they don't fix them. They just throw a little asphalt in them and leave. If it's not done right it'll come right back out. It's job security for them the way they do it.

I think what he was getting at is "they fixed it" instead of repairing it Neutral

Yep, they made no attempt to permanently(as permanent as road work can be) to resolve the problem, they just put a band aid on it

They took care of the Siwell end in the same manner for as long as I can remember.

This is a pet peeve of mine. The road crews throw a little asphalt in it and call it fixed. If they would prep the hole correctly it could be a repair instead of a short term fix. I blame the leadership for this approach, not the workers. They don't want to spent the time or money to do it right so the roads just get worse. And its our tax dollars being wasted. Rant over.

If this ever comes to pass, access to the Magnolia Range could be deliberately made
either expensive or inconvenient and what about property owners living along this road?
If some arrogant Rankin Supervisor told me I'd have to pay a toll every time I wanted
to get to my property or home or leave it, there would be a quick need for special elections
to fill the board's total vacancy, what an idiotic idea!!! no

That's just another reason it won't happen 45. It's a populated road, toll roads are very rarely inhabited to the extent of F-B/Siwell road, at least in my experience.

If they make it a toll road, let's have Magnolia buy the old swinging bridge and use it for our memebership after Dan fixes it lol

Be careful having a laissez-faire stance regarding governmental issues like this.  If you believe that this will never happen, take a drive down Airport Road.  It looks to be happening right now.

I recently moved to MS from NJ because of the government doing what they want and people saying "It will never happen".  For example:  I owned a 106 year old house, 2.5 floors, basement, three bedrooms and one bath on 1/8 of an acre.  My property taxes were $6,500.00 a year.  People kept saying taxes would never/could not go up.  They did and did again and again.  On top of that I had a $1,200.00 exit tax levied on me when I did not purchase another house within the state.

If you believe that the quality of road maintenance will increase, do an internet search on Indiana's toll roads.  The popular things to do with toll roads is to sell them to foreign companies that manage them.  Tolls collected do not go to the state and road quality usually declines drastically.

Y'all still have a lot of rights and freedoms here in MS.  Don't take them for granted.  Do so, and they will be lost.

True ja1257, but a toll road is possible in Mississippi only if the government can figure out a way to charge out-of-state drivers and give locals a free pass.

Maybe they could let folks have free access if they show a welfare check or food stamp card. laughatyou
