Suppressor Host

Post by scooterbear on Wed 4 Jan 2012 - 18:31

I'm thinking of building a bolt rifle for a .30 caliber suppressor. I have both Remington and Savage actions that I can use. My first thoughts are to chamber it in 300 Whisper with a 16" barrel. The stock will be a Bell & Carlson (that is what I sell).

What are your ideas or suggestion for this build?

thanks

I'm not sure that the 30-338 Lapua would be subsonic. lol

I've been wanting a 300 BlkOut/Whisper. Keep us updated on the build.

BTW if you plan to build one, be sure to get a 300 blackout. Not 300 whisper. The 300 AAC Blacout is the SAMMI standard. This way you know all the rapidly expanding commercial ammo will work and not have any safety issues.

i mean really i know JD Jones likes you to use 221 fireball brass but plenty of people just chop down 223 and roll on, or if your real anal you can do a inside neck ream on it.

I have been researching the 300 AAC Blackout and it does seem the better choice than the 300 Whisper. A few of the major manufactures are making the 300 AAC Blackout in bolt guns, but they have 20” barrels which will be too long by the time the suppressor is added. I do want to keep the rounds subsonic so the longer barrel has no advantage.

I have ran into one problem…..the bolt face on both my actions is the wrong size for the 300 BLK.

You need a 223 action. Of course if you have a spare AR just order a barrel and your done. Mags and bolts are the same.
