Magtech SP primers any good???
Just curious.
They are on a pretty good sale at Grafs, and thought about getting some. Anyone have experience?
OR Sellier & Bellot SP primers?? They are the same price.

I use the Magtech SP primers for my 9mm and the .38 and .357 without any troubles. The S&B weren´t that good because they seem to have a smaller diameter and fit the best with S&B brass.

I've loaded some and fired, no problems. Haven't tried the S&B.
I know that other primers don't want to fit their cases.

So any reason to spend more on CCIs? Or just go with Magtechs?
Also, does load data/ powder charge have to change with diff primers? Or if data specifies CCI 500s, can I substitute Magtechs without any change?

Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
There shouldn't be much change, if any between primers. I've loaded 38s and 357 with sp and spm primers. But I load for plinking. The only primers I haven't tried are s&b and tula. What tula ammo I've seen shoots well. So I guess their primers are good too.

Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
There is no influence from the SP primers of different makers. The Magtech is good and i´m sure that the CCi aren´t any better. Only difference is that some primers are a bit harder than others. That means if you will shoot with a very low powered hammer spring like some revolvers have, than the Federals are a good choice. But for any normal pistol and revolver the Magtech´s are working great.

Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
Just my .02 worth:
I have read that primers DO make a difference and that it should not be taken for granted that they can be interchanged in a reload recipie. (story is that some burn hotter and create higher pressures).
That said, I have yet to create and max loads - and thus i feel comfortable using any SP primer brand in place of another SP primer. I have NOT replaced SP with magnum SP primers, and so far do not intend to.
Primers I have used:
Reminton SP
Tulammo SP
CCI 550
Of these, all did fine in the finished product. However, I do feel my Dillion SD did not like the Tulammo primers.

I use Magtechs a lot. I've loaded up about 5k 223 and 3k 9mm with them. Haven't seen any issues related to the primer.
I got a few cases of Magtechs from Graf a few weeks ago on that 32lb deal.

Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
If I load cci in my open revo if one fires off it would shock the crap out of me
Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
Ok, sounds like I'm good to go with the Magtechs. A couple of you mentioned magnum SP primers.... Just to be clear, the Magtech SP primers are standard SP primers correct? The brand name "magtech" means nothing right?
I know from shotshells reloading that different brand 209s can definitely affect the load... Hotter/cooler brands. So I was just curious if SP primers tended to be the same? I'll be loading just over minor in 9mm so i doubt any diference in primer would be enough to make anything dangerous.

My above post, That's not due to poor primer or anything just some are harder to light off
Re: Magtech SP primers any good???
I'm using the standard SP, SR, LP and LR standard Magtechs (not Magnum).
The SP were 85.99 per 5k....makes me want to get more!

Yes I do. That C&R saves me money on so many things. It was well worth getting.

The Magtech SP primers are normal primers. I don´t use SP Magnum primers not even with the .357magnum.
