My old Cartridges of the World book shows the original loading for that cartridge and rifle to be an 87 gr. bullet at 3000 fps. Shows 37 grs. of IMR 4064 at 3090 fps. Also shows a factory 100 gr. at 2820 fps. and with 35 grs. of IMR 4064 at 2880 fps. My reloading books show alot of data on it but just wanted to say what the old cartridge book said. Wink

Let us know how it does. I've got as 1941 Savage 99F. Haven't reloaded for it yet. I've been shooting factory loads to accumulate some brass. I've got dies and .257 bullets from 60 to 120gr.

well nothing blew up so +

Groups were not so great but I didn't have a good rest. Also, when I got home I decided to check the scope mounts and they were a little loose. So back to the bench.

Oh well an afternoon at the range is a good afternoon

I've always thought the Savage case was an excellent short action case for calibers smaller than .308. The .300 Savage was just a bit too much bullet weight for the case capacity, IMHO. But I think the old .250 has lots of promise yet.

The same case would probably also make a good platform for 6mm and 6.5mm bullets as well.

The military looked at the 300 savage to make the .308 according to some sources. I really like quarter bores I have a 257 roy, 25 wssm ar upper and a 25-06 Mauser. I guess I need to add a 257 roberts and 25-35 win.

Not a big 6mm fan though.

But this reloading has me thinking another great round based on the 250 savage case..... the 22-250

Yeah, it's a shame that no one is making .22-250 rifles with the faster twists so that the longer, heavier .224 bullets that are now available could be used. I think new life would be breathed into the round if one could use the 70, 75, and 77 grain bullets that are available nowadays that have gotten so popular in the 1 in 8 twist ARs.
