Thoughts on Hornady Steel Match .223 ammo
Just purchased a Stag Arms 3G, which I plan to use mostly for competition. At this point I'm not really interested in reloading .223, so I wondered what are people's thoughts on Hornady's Steel Match ammo? It seems like a decent alternative to reloading match ammo, although admittedly more expensive. Also I was planning to shoot the 75gr version.
I did shoot Hornady's Steel Match .40 ammo out of my M&P at the last Magnolia Steel match. Not a single problem with the 200 rounds fired and the felt recoil was nice not harsh like some .40 ammo, a big plus in my book.

Re: Thoughts on Hornady Steel Match .223 ammo
I have a rem 700 223,var barrel 1/12. I been using the blackhills reman 52gr match ammo, was told this is/was good match ammo.I wasn't getting very good groups, gun still alittle new but should of been enough rounds to settle down,I also this last time I ran JB thru the bore about 20+ times, polishing &over cleaning, I tried the steel match 55 grain and I'm very impressed, cold bore at a 100y 5 shoot was .400 group,Ive never been that close with it, but the more i shot the groups opened up some,I shot 50 rounds steel and 35 of the black hills.I do notice when it gets warm they poi changes a good bit.
This was at Byram last Wed,with the 100y as said above then 200y was fair with the steel match,at 300 it was prob 4-5inch, and tried the blackhills reman 55gr,(nonmatch) and it was not consistent, also that after 65+ rounds,so prob getting tired some? I started at 8.45 and finished at 12:30.
I have a buddy that has the same gun and he's been using 45-52 grain and the 45 is tighter, also hes a real good shot.
Another thing I just started shooting guns last year, so I'm a amateur and not consistent at all.
Been searching for a good price in the 55 hornady most are 17.00.
hope this helps and good luck.
So maybe the 75 will be good for ya

Without stating barrel twist, "What's the best .223 ammo?" questions can't reliably be answered. For 75gn most likely you need at least 1:8.
A newbie at the last match at the Burns range shot the steel match ammo and was able to get his shots on target out at 600 yards, so it must be pretty good.

Ralph H. tried some of the Hornaday Steel ammo in his AR and it did not function properly. It was probably just the rifle.
