VID: Subsonic 308 suppresed

Post by beltfed on Fri 13 Jan 2012 - 18:40

Dan and I spent a day at GCPRC testing some subsonic loads for groups at 100 yards.

Heres Dan driving the FN SPR A3G.

The loads are 8.5 grains of Trail Boss pushing 150 grain winchester soft points. The FN sports a 24" tube 1-12 twist.

The camera really amplifies the sound produced by the loads, its almost dissapointing that it doesnt capture the actual sound of the gun. The gun is literally QUIETER than a BB gun. You can hear the round smack the paper immediately after the shot. To get an idea of how quiet the gun really is pay attention to the last round fired, it was actually Dan dry firing the gun, and the firing pin is about as loud as the actual firing.

With a little effort the the subsonics proved 1 MOA easily at 100 yards while general plinking. We tried them at 300 but they were all over the place. We had to hold up about 5 feet to get them to reach the 300 yard berm. Any thing within 100 is dead though, and would never hear it coming!

That was impressive. What velocity do you think you were getting?

HINT: Move the gun out from under the cover for less shot noise.

That rifle was definitely sweet. Hopefully it can be mine one day.

Heres what mine sounds like with nothing around for the sound to bounce off of.

175gr supersonic at 400yds on steel plate.

210gr subsonic at 100yds at a peice of paper. Can hear the bullet hit.

If you were out from under that covering and just a lil further away it would prolly pick up a better sound.
Its addicting none the less!!!

That 210 is very quiet Nonnie. What kind of set up do you have?
