Firearms around Military base.

Post by sidroski on Fri Jan 13, 2012 9:54 pm

Can you still check in a firearm at the gate? You could at the Navy base where they lock it up for you (30 years ago). Don't want to leave them in the hotel room for obvious reasons.
Little bragging- Son is getting his Ranger patch to go along with his Airborne, Air Assault and Pathfinder patches.

I don't think you can. Call the base ahead of time and find out. It might vary from base to base. I know when I go out to the 172nd I just leave mine at the house or drop it off with a friend who works nearby

At NCBC Gulfport we can. I have checked one there before but it was a PITA. Prepare for a hassle.

Thanks Cajnfrnd. He is self driven and from football (played at hinds when they were #6 in the nation), he learned how to become a leader. Knee injury stopped that but he was able to carry those skills to the Army. I am proud of him but won't take any of the credit. The man he has become is through his own desire for success. I will pass along your thanks.

You cannot check your weapon at the gate with the security forces at Columbus AFB. Although, in Nov 2011 they allowed me too. In Jan 2012, I showed up with XD-9 and kids to go bowling. The officer of the day said the policy was to check weapons for active duty or reservist if on orders, but not retired or separated. "But we'll let you do it today because you're here." But they didn't let me. He sent out his sergeant to tell me I couldn't. So, I got my boys and gun and left.
