Haven't heard anything, but I would have to pass either way. For the same cash you can get a legitimate used weapon of amazing quality.

Quality is good, its a german engineer who is a employee of the Arab company. And since a few years they are made in Suhl, Germany. Good for self defense or Army and Police duty but not good for Sport shooters for its not so great accuracy.

I shot a match near Knoxville,TN, last May hosted by the manufacturer or distributor of Caracal. All guns and ammo were provided. The matches were steel challenged based, largely, with a paper targets being used in a couple and scored time down. I don't remember there being any accuracy issues but admittedly the shots required were not that difficult.

12 Caracals total were used for the stages and side match/demo area, 8 full size and 4 compacts, and about 180 shooters shot the match. It is my understanding they went though about 21,000 rounds and the guns did well. No broken parts or guns taken out of service and I didn't witness any jams, but I didn't witness everyone shooting either. I am not saying this is remarkable or that many other guns couldn't do this; just stating facts.

They had a good number of magazines and were running the shooters through pretty quickly, so the guns got pretty hot. On at least one stage, they were cooling them like this:

Again, nothing that crazy, but I think it was done to give the impression of a torture test (and it worked to keep the slides cool enough to not burn the next shooter when they put a round in the chamber). As mentioned above, German design sold to the U.A.E. Very similar to the Steyr with extremely low bore axis. Trigger is like many of the striker fired polymer guns these days. Overall I was reasonably impressed. Another seemingly viable option, but nothing that really made it stand out over a Glock, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, etc. I understand they have had some problems getting enough of them here and at one point folks were thinking they might be going under. Immediately after that some more arrived though so maybe everything is ok.

If I'm correct, the guy who designed this weapon is the same person who designed the Steyr M9, which would also explain why they are so similar. I think it's a nice enough gun but for the money I would prefer to have something from one of the more mainstream corporations.

There's something odd about it... just can't put my finger on it. I wonder if you can find holster for them?

Designer originally worked for Glock. Designed the Steyr M-series (which he originally offered to Glock, and then when they weren't interested he left and worked with Steyr). The Caracal is a further revision and development of his pistol designs.

I'd buy one, but not at that price. I'm sure it's a fine pistol, but unless I'm getting a smoking deal on it, I'd prefer something that has better availability for parts and magazines.
