2012 Jan Gun show buys!

Post by pinetor on Sun Jan 15, 2012 8:41 am

Well the gun show was super crowded, and mostly just the same vendors there... BUT they brought goodies that I was looking for! I have been looking for a .357 lever that wasn't a complete beater or brand new, and I found not 1 but 2! I found a Rossi 92 in .357. Then there was this unexpected find; a Dan Wesson Palmer Fixed barrel .357. Note I seemed to have misplaced my camera so these were done with the phone and are horrible.

Close up of the DW:

As soon as I bought them I went out to Turcott to give them a try. The DW did great as most all DW do. The Rossi, though used, either had NEVER been fired, or had been fired so long ago that it just didn't matter. The gun was BONE dry, so dry it jammed while empty. Liberal amounts of oil and 20 rounds of .38 sp later and she starting to loosen up nicely, though my thumb is killing me from forcing bullets into the tight trap door.

A note on the DW. Most Dan Wessons have the interchangeable barrels they are known for. But after DW failed in Monson, and re-opened in Palmer Mass, they tried making some fixed barrel guns that were sold at a lower price. Otherwise the guns are identical to the more common ones. So for us, DW nuts these are considered "slightly" collectible. For one to really be worth collecting it would need to be pristine and include the box/papers/sundry. This gun is just a shooter grade gun with dings mars and even some surface rust. Still, there probably aren't a handful in the state, and this one is mine!

Good score on that fixed barrel. I was eying a 44 mag fixed barrel custom 3" something or other on gunbroker a while back. A real beauty just couldnt bring myself to drop a grand. Ended up finding my Alaskan so all is well.

There is a guy that is a Rossi guru and sells a "kit" with instructions on how to slick up the actions. They say when done properly those rough as a cob Rossis run like a $1000 custom. Maybe worth lookin into

Both Rossi's got sold. The other DW was a well worn 15-2 V8 (8" barrel) pretty standard gun. Gun was way over priced for what it was. Both Rossi's had a haggle price of $350 Which is too high, but I was tired of waiting.
I was there sat from about 11:30 to 2.
Waking around vendor asked both of us if the Rossi were for sale. Kinda funny really.

There was a third, it was way more than 350. I was there during the same times, surprised I didn't run into you like usual.
