Do you think gun and ammo prices are going to sky rocket later this year?
Been around long enough to see election speculation and results influence ammo, component, and firearm prices. I have seen the cycle many times. I believe in purchasing in bulk and saving for a rainy day. Panic buying and insane inflated prices are of little interest to me. Now that powder and primers are readily available..what are your thoughts. I see bullet prices going up for the first of the year all over. Market prices for lead and copper are trending in the other direction.
Magazines, parts and receivers are everywhere.
However I can read on five different forums where people are already starting to speculate. Has the snow ball started rolling down hill? As soon as tax refund checks start coming in it will be interesting to see if activity begins.

With a war ending, demand should soften. Who knows??!! Oil doesn't do what it should go either!
I believe prices will rise, but not necessarily spike.

I have seen more .223 hitting the market since troops have come back from Iraq. Our local Walmart has the 420 round federal in ammo boxes for $149.

Its coming down now.
But
If O gets back into office, it will go up because since he has nothing to lose, he'll make a full court press to reinstate the AWB or impose huge taxes or regulations......or at least we'll think that!

I dont see a large spike, but the trend of upward spiral will continue, mostly due to inflation. Should hyperinflation hit there may be a little chaos and fear buying. But thats a big if for now, however as the drags on to next jan I think inflation will be a major issue.

I think high volume buyers, i.e us, are saturated with what we need. I love gun and ammo dealers but they sure use any bad news to jack up those prices.

Like someone else said, if Obama goes back in there will be another rush to buy.

I need more bullets for pistol. I've got the primers and some brass but am not finding good deals on the bullets.

Yeah you can already see the fear buying with new first time buyers being scared str8 at gun shops. Rediculous is what it is. O might make a run at a ban but he'll play hell getting it.....I dont impulse fear buy as it's an ancient marketing scheme used by the media and retailers to induce panic............

I predict that there will be a panic buying trend as the election approaches, unless it is clear that the O is not going to be re-elected. Likewise (as already posted above) if the O is re-elected there will be a panic, just like in 2008-09. I personally don't believe there will be a deliberate effort to implement bans, at least not immediately after the O is re-elected. But with another 4 years as a lame duck prez he might feel it is now or never to issue executive orders, etc. If that does happen, prices will go WAY up.

I think higher prices are going to depend on two things. The first is the economic crisis in Europe and how that will hit the U.S.. The second is the election and who the next person to occupy the oval office looks to be. If the European crissis hits us and it looks like Oby will be reelected then plan on much higher prices for everythig (not just guns and ammo) and the purchase of some pvc pipe.

What's the PVC pipe for? I only ask because I work for a PVC manufacturer.

It is rumored that PVC pipe could be used to build storage capsules for burying and hiding valuables.

And Rebar drove straight down gives off the same signature as a rifle barrel, or so I've heard.

Personally I think gun and ammo prices have stabilized....If you aint loaded up by now....you S.O.L.
I still don't think it gets as bad as it was a couple years ago when the reloading aisles were stripped clean
Many folks I know are just sitting on their piles

Re: Do you think gun and ammo prices are going to sky rocket later this year?
I'm thinking about the spike we saw at Christmas for gun sales. Maybe that was a pre-emptive strike by consumers, but it may be an indicator of the public's mindset. 3 years ago, even the people who don't shoot much realized that ammo was in short supply. Presidential election years are weird for sales. Big purchases go way down because people(and companies) sit on money to see what happens.
I think the 2012 doomsday stuff will trigger a lot of Y2K-type buying. All it takes is something blowing up in the Mideast or a comet or Euro/US financial meltdown to create a frenzy. Throw that in with the election and you've got a pretty good recipe.
As was said before, buy it cheap and stack it deep because once a panic hits, its too late.
