How hard to find are Nambus?

Post by Tree of Liberty on Mon Jan 16, 2012 6:56 pm

How hard are Nambus (Type 14 ) to find? Does anyone know where these things pop up or become available? What do these pistols usually cost? Also, I have only ever found 8mm Nambu ammo in one place on the internet, is there a place anyone else may know of that sells 8mm?

Any help is always appreciated.

God bless

Not that hard to find really. I've owned about 6 over the past two years, keeping the nicest one for myself and selling the others. They run around $450-$600 for a Type 14 with large trigger-guard, and about $500-$700 for a small trigger-guard model. The ammo is the hard part...

Some Nambu Pistols are extremely rare and valueable. I sold a Papa Nambu (Model 1908) for $2800.00. It as a rare marked version with both Tokyo Arsenal Markings and stamped with Tokyo Gas and Electric Markings. There are also versions called a Grandpapa Nambu and a Baby Nambu that are even rarer than the Papa version. There were only 572 Papa Nambu pistols that were marked with dual manufacuring markings.

Sweet piece there. I had one many years ago (not the papa..) it was in great shape but shot horrid groups. Ammo was pricey at best

There is some part on the side, not the trigger, that he pressed will cause one to fire. I've never handled one but I read it on the internet so it must be true! Hope you find what you like and give us a range report!

That is not a Nambu, It is a Jap type 94. A really ugly pistol with a sear bar that will drop the hammer when pushed in.

So you're saying the Nambu is pretty? Smile

Someone has been shooting one, picked up a few pieces of brass at Magnolia a couple weeks ago.

How do you like the looks of the Type 94 Japanese Pistol in 8mm Nambu. The straw colored bar on the center of the pistol is the bar that will fire the pistol when pressed in.

Well, it sure ain't a 1911 or a Luger. The Japanese had an aesthetic (if you can call it that) all their own when it came to pistols. Sorry, but neither one rings my chimes. Interesting pieces of history, for sure, but no beauty queens to this western eye.

I love how Nambus look. That Type 94 Doug posted looks sweet too. The only thing I would have worries about ordering a Type 94 online would how my hand fit it with. The Nambu looks like it has a good bit more hand room.

8mm Nambu is some really rare ammo

The ammo is made by Federal for hard to find ammo dealers. The Old Western Scrounger.

Good luck on your search. That's a great thing about guns, the incredible variety available. If we all liked the same things it would be a very dull world.

thumbs up

Dennis Kroh of Empire Arms says he currently doesn't have one but has had them come through from time to time.

I bet it'd be impossible to find reload stuff for 8mm Nambu too
