.22 cal chamber reamer (drill bit?)

.22 cal chamber reamer (drill bit?)
i am wanting to chamber a rifle blank for .22 lr. i read somewhere to just use a certain size drill bit for the chamber and use the lathe for the rim cut, is this correct?

I've read that before. I looked in a couple of my books but couldn't find it.

Why use a drill bit when you can use a regular chamber reamer? A .22 is .224in in dia. a #01 wire drill bit is ..228 that is the closest standard drill bit to it.

Im just asking to see if this info is correct. I am leaning towards the reamer though.

Don't do it. The pilot on the reamer rides the lands in the barrel and keeps the chamber straight with the bore. It is possible to drill a chamber off center. You can rent a reamer for a few bucks and save the possible problem. Also, the reamer cuts the throat area properly.

Shows some pic's of you working on it. I'd like to see, never done that before. I know before and after pictures wouldn't be much change on a .22.

I will do. It will be a couple weeks foforr im finished. I have to go pick up the gun next weekend. I still dont have all of my guns here. Just moved in a few months ago. Ha
