Prayer request....
I hate asking for this because I know there are too many folks out there in worse shape than me, some of which are members here and most of which are probably more deserving or in need of help and prayers than I am.
I'm just having a really hard time with life right now. I got out of school in August and had a job by September that I really loved and looked forward to going to everyday and thought I was ready for the real world and started looking for a house. Well the thing about the real world is that occasionally it throws a kink in your plan.
The week of thanksgiving I was told by the CFO(my direct supervisor) I was doing a great job and would be getting a raise, and then a week later, about 2 weeks before Christmas I was called into the VP's office and was let go from my job, without any sort of warning or even an explanation.
Now I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that there was some legitimate reason for doing that right there at the holidays. I'm not saying all of this to bash them, just to give y'all and understanding of my situation. In a way I'm blessed that they fired me when they did, because if they'd waited any longer and I would have probably have signed on a house....in which case I'd have been more hurt and furious than I was and still am.
So in other words, I have been back on the job hunt since early December and never in my life have I been so stressed, nor has my faith ever been this tested. The fact that I'm without a job isn't the bad part, because on top of that I've got a wedding in May and between now and then it'd be really helpful to have a place to live outside of my Mom's.
Luckily for me I'm in a much better position than most people on the job hunt today, because I live at home still and I have a family who is more than glad to help me out however possible. And yes I could probably go to the nearest McDonald's and flip hamburgers, and if it comes down to it then that's what I will do.
The other frustrating part is that I keep finding possible jobs and it turns into a dead end just when I think it might work out. Right now I've got two very good possibilities lined up, but both are dependent on folks leaving like they say they are going to, and one of which turns out to have a tie back to the VP that fired me, so who knows what will be said in that conversation.......I'd like to say I left on good terms but when you aren't told anything other than "it's not working out, it's best we just leave it at that" how can you really know? Either way, I can't sit around and wait on a job to come to me, so it looks like I'll just keep pounding the pavement and checking as many job listings as possible.
Again, I know others have it far worse than I do, but while you're praying for them please throw a small one in there for me, I could really use some happy thoughts at this point in my life because I'm currently running out of them.

Bad news but it came at a good time. Trying to make house notes w/o a job is tough. Been through 4-5 mergers, been dogging bullets at every turn. You've got a good education and no one can take that from you. Best wishes for another job soon. (If you will PM me what type work you are looking for, there may be an opening where I work).
Good luck just the same

Thank y'all for the prayers and kind words. I normally don't let much get to me, I like to keep my emotions on the inside where they belong, but it had just built up past that point.

Re: Prayer request....
What type of work are you looking for?
If the previous job gives you a bad reference you can sue the snot out of them. All they can legally say is you worked from this date to that date.
There was a 101'st recon platoon vet from WWII that was a friend of the family. He never let anything bother him, he never phrased it this way but basically as long as Germans aren't trying to shoot you, you are having a good day. You are the one in control of how you feel, and the quicker you get a hold of yourself you'll interview better. Welcome to the school of hard knocks, my friend.

I have seen many many times that when 1 door closes another opens. You are still young and have time for a really bright future. I'm sure you will look back at this one day and say "thank God".

Right now I'm pretty well open to anything. My degree is in Business Administration. At this last job I was doing inventory/auditing and accounting work.
And I've spoken with the CFO(who was my direct supervisor) and she was completely left in the dark about the whole situation according to her, and she assured me a good reference. But like you said all they can really say is "he worked here" because of the fear of being sued these days.
Your family friend sounds like a wise man. I've always told my nieces and nephews if something wasnt broken or bleeding then they were fine and to butch up. Just had to get my head back in the game.

I got laid off from IBM in the early 90's. Had a house note and 4 kids. As it turned out it was a blessing. Just couldn't realize it at the time. Ended up 6 months later getting a better job.

Re: Prayer request....
Got a call this morning from a friend who told me to get dressed and get to her work to turn in an app and speak with her boss. I guess you could say a mini-interview. Went really well, but the company policy is to accept apps for at least 3 days, so it will be open for at least a couple more, and then he said to expect him to give me a call by the end of the week for another interview.
IF it works out, it'll be a good job, but with really crazy hours(long nights), but lots of them, and the same pay rate, possibly more, than I was making at my last job. And the potential to move to days as openings become available. So we'll see how it goes and hope for the best.
I appreciate all the prayers, please keep them coming because its not over until someone says I've got the job.
