Is this a done deal? I thought the State Department had blocked this sale.

Great news! Now where do we buy them from. I hope they are a decent price.

Article said "they currently sell for around $220"
I wish. Sign me up for ten at that price.

Got my fingers crossed that it will happen. According to the article, M1 production started in 1926!!!

Re: M1 Garands
These, if they ever make it back over here, will be sold to a couple of the major importers. They will be marked and then sold to the public. I would believe that condition and maker will set the price. You can bet your bottom dollar that they will not be cheaper than what CMP sells 'em for (in like condition).
I did read not long ago a piece someone wrote who said they have actually had the opportunity to go through some of the Garands and Carbine in storage in S.Korea. He commented that most looked pretty rough and have not been cared for or properly stored..... Guess, maybe we will see .....
However, I can hope that all of them are IHCs!!

Re: M1 Garands
I bought my first M1 for $112. The last importation of M1 rifles from Korea showed the bad conditions they were stored in and the lack of repair done to them. They all needed new barrels. That's good for me I can re-barrel an M1 rifle or carbine.

I've seen similar comments around the web. Why is it assumed there will be many IHC's? Most were made after the cease fire of 7/53.
I think it will mainly be rebuilt WWII rifles.

Too bad they won't allow the carbines in. 600,000 plus of the M-1 Carbine? Wonder if it would drop the prices on them?

I have the tendency to think the way you do ... I have heard and read the same thing -- all the IHCs are in S.Korea and Iran!! However, we can hope!!

I do believe if the Garands make it in; the carbines will follow .... Being selfish - I hope the prices do not drop!!!!!!

The Obama administration blocked the purchase of 87,310 M1 Garands and 770,160 M1 Carbines in 2010, saying the American-made antique rifles could “potentially be exploited by individuals seeking firearms for illicit purposes.”

I do hope these rifles come home. However, prices will drop for existing Garands already here if they dump them.
