Looking for EOTech Input

Post by jkpz28 on Fri Jan 20, 2012 7:37 am

Looking into getting an EOTech for my AR but I have no clue which to go with.

So far I like the 517, XPS2-RF, 516.A65, or maybe the 512.

Anybody have any suggetions or tried some of these?

I've used the 512 of my brothers a good bit. It's a quality optic, but I think I'd prefer one of the shorter models that just takes a single 123a battery. Or just anything shorter than the 512....it takes up a LOT of rail space.

You should note that the xps2-rf is intended for rim fire only. The xps2 model(no rf) is rated for center fire.

If it were me buying one, I'd be looking at a NV compatible model or a model with a magnifier, just because

Thanks for the tip, I didnt realize that the RF was rimfire. I have a magnifier already for my current optic. I prob need to measure out the 512 to see if I would even be able to fit my magnifier on my rifle with it.

I'm looking at the shorter ones too. I thought I stumbled across a deal on one at a recent gun show, but it was a fake (Green Reticle).

I have an XPS2. Uses the single battery. Lightweight with good sighting ring and dot. Have it co-witnessed on an AR.

I had a 552 and hated absolute co-witness on a post front sight. If I had a flip up front I would go that route. If I get another I will find a mount for lower 1/3. The sight post obstructing my dot drove me crazy, and limits your vision IMO...

I have a flip up front and rear so not a problem here.

Thanks for the info on xps2-rf. I have wondered for years why someone did not make a rimfire holographic sight.

They are kind of expensive (~$350), but it surely flung a craving on me!

Haha yeah that's a little steep to use a larger caliber just to ruin and find out its not warranteed for it.

Another option would be to find a Bushnell holo. A bit cheaper, and still made by Eotech. Only differences I'm aware of are a plastic outer shell, and the buttons are plastic instead of rubber I believe. I don't think they're being produced anymore but I'm sure if a new one isn't still available you could possibly find a used one on the cheap

Good luck with that Jake. I've been on a week long internet search even called Bushnell they provided me a list of places with big warehouses to call and all were sold. He also suggested to try Amazon and EBay both of which came up empty.

Ha nah I was just making a suggestion. I'll stick with my Trijicon Reflex....no batteries required and adjusts on its own thumbs up

The eotechs are great optics though.
