ATF interview in record time
Applied for my FFL on 12/12. Yesterday, I get a call to set up my interview. From what I read, it usually takes 60 days. Looking forward to getting my FFL then SOT. Those who have already done this, how much should I already know about the law, etc?

I do not. I hope it's not the girl from the coast. I know two ATF employees that say that she is the terror of the ATF. Is it is a black girl from the coast get ready for a proctology exam. She did an inspection of a friends shop and she almost shut him down because he sold a legal gun to Byron De Lay Beckwith III. not the felon but his som with the same name. The name of your business may cause you problems if it is her.

Yep, it's her. I thought it was a black lady on the phone and she is from the coast. I can't see how a name will be grounds to deny me a license?

I'll have to say that I just had a very pleasant experience with Investigator Flake. She was very nice and I had no problems whatsoever. The interview / instructions only took an hour. She had a great attitude and I would be OK if she was my inspector later on. She's an A+ in my book!

Glad it went well, I have never had dealing with the coast people, but I have heard stories on that one.
Overall, my experiences have all been well with BATFE. No problems to speak of.

Re: ATF interview in record time
In response to a PM regarding whether ATF is "cracking down" on kitchen table FFL's I wanted to post this publicly.
It's really funny what one "hears" and what is actually fact. I too had heard that along with if I'm applying for an FFL 07, I will have to "prove" that I'm going to be making firearms with lathe, drill press, cnc machines, etc. Invest. Flake was really nice and as a side note asked if I had a business license "yet." She seemed really relaxed (not an up tight pencil pusher type) and like the whole thing was no big deal. There is so much rumor going around about this I think the best way to know is just to apply for it and see what happens (referring to kitchen table FFL). My neighbor down the road has a "kitchen table" ffl and they haven't inspected him for years. Invest. Flake said in MS there are 2,000 + FFL's and there is no way we can inspect them all in the first year it may take a couple, lol. I'm glad Dock Rocker called me because he encouraged me to get the 07 and it was just a matter of amending my application today. Invest. Flake said that ATF recently had a ruling that ANY assembly of a gun on a frame is considered "manufacturing" so if I intend on building AR's that I need to go with the 07. Plus it $50 cheaper and when I get my SOT and can assemble post sample machine guns. She is going to fax me a copy of that ruling and I can post it here.

I hear ya man, it happens all the time all you hear is negative remarks about hard it is to do these days. I'm glad it all worked out for you.

I don't think I'm in the clear yet but if today's interview is like the rest of the process it should be a piece of cake. I was told 4 to 6 weeks until I hear something.
Re: ATF interview in record time
That's all good news, as I'm on the coast and thinking about doing the same thing. Get FFL, then work on the SOT/Class III.
THere's a lot of Pre-may Dealer Samples out there that I want part of!
Cheers,
Breeze

Re: ATF interview in record time
Hey man, I'm glad to hear that when law abiding citizens do their homework with the ATF that things go well.
All my experiences so far have been positive and the fear factor impressions that most of the great unwashed public have are unfounded.
Now I have no doubt that if you screw up....that thunder would roll...
For years I was "frozen by fear"....but there's no need.
While I have no desire for a FFL....might want one one day in the future when I retire and give a few retail stores around here a little lesson in taking care of the customer.
We got good folks on here like Dock Rocker, 2ALawyer, Subgun, Mr. Clean etc that really know their sh!t on this subject and it helps to learn how other's dealings go with ATF.
We don't wanna read any "posts from prison"
My "little transaction" was a breeze and glad to hear your process is going well
Keep your nose clean
Good Luck the rest of the way....who know's I might "need" something full auto
