affordable optics for AR's

Post by BigDaddyQ on Fri Jan 20, 2012 4:33 pm

I considered the bushnell holosight a quality optic for an affordable price. I found them once for around 200. Sure beats paying 450 for an eotech. So with that said the budget is around $200.
What I've seen so far is

Vortex SPARC comes with 2 magnifier for around 179
Bushnell's red dot no longer a holosight for around 89
Burris 300233 FastFire II around 179

I'd like a flat plane sight but seems like the only one in my price range is the burris. I don't want junk. No chinese copies of eotechs and such. If any body else has any input on any of these or another viable option please comment.

Go with one of Primary Arms's dot sight or a Konus 1x4. No problems with any of mine.

Tried out a Vortex StrikeFire on a .308 AR type. Decent optic so far- easy to zero, clear, good dot intensity, fairly precise dot, seems like a good deal so far. About 150 rounds downrange so it's still very early in the game.

Definitely not an Aimpoint, but not too shabby for $149.95.

I have an Armson OEG. Very reasonably priced, but different. If you want something that's quick, it works, but it is different.....

I really like my Bushnell Holosight. I like it as much as my Eotec; maybe more since it cost less. As my eyes get older I have been thinking more and more about a FastFire for some of my range only or hunting guns.

Ok what about this one by sightmark?

Ultra Dual Shot QD Reflex Sight (SM13006)
never heard of it until I was looking up one of their other NV scopes and saw they had a reflex sight. MSRP is 179.99 and has a lifetime warranty so may be a decent deal?

Shooter I saw one and my brother bought one from mr. clean and I really like his holosight. I'm still shopping while I wait for my form 4 to come back.

My son just bought a Sightmark 1x33x24 Ultra Shot Holographic for his Windham. He likes it. SWFA has them for $99.95. Stock # is SM14000. If anyone is looking for a 1-4x with illuminated reticle, SWFA also has the Leatherwood CMR for $317.99, stock #CMR14X24R. So far, I am very pleased with mine.

never hears or seen that one before. I'm really looking for a reflex or red dot sight. With an optioinal/removable magnifier. I'd really like to stay away from tubes but it seems thats all anybody makes now

I'm really thinking about the sightmark rader NV scope.

I am well pleased with my Strikefire. Have had it on .223 and 6.5 Grendel AR platforms.

I was thinking about the vortex SPARC for my 40 and the sightmark rader NV for my 300 blackout. I heard that strikefire was good just haven't seen one yet.

Haven't had too much experience with less expensive optics. Tried a Barska red dot ($99) which was "ok" except I couldn't keep it sighted in. Could have been operator error..but, it worked just fine if you only needed it for close range, quick aquisition to shoot at center mass, not for serious target shooting. The wife quickly discovered the Leupold Mark 4 CQT and had to have it...it cost almost as much as the rifle but she loves it, and I am hooked on it as well. It only has 3x magnification, but for our purposes it is really sweet. Anyway, she's shooting far better than I am and hits bowling pins, small water bottles, small pieces of skeet clays, golf balls and the bulls-eye at 100 yds, with the scope and/or iron sights. Neither of us shoot competition or use the AR for hunting, so I'm sure that makes a difference in what type optic you need or want.

Have any of you guys used any of the fire field products. I saw one at the gun show a couple of weeks ago and liked it. For the money from sportsmen guide $100.00 seemed ok. 5x magnifier and three color retical. Onced sighted at 100yds it has wind age and height adj. and a laser.

I recommend the Primary Arms micro dot. You will have to look very hard to find a bad review on these. I have 3 and really like them. Great company and at $79 hard to beat. The one on my SOCOM 16 has took a pounding and holds zero nicely.

Every time you see a cut rate you like, put that $150 in your pocket, Won't be long until you have a real setup. Quality is never cheap and will be there when you absolutely positively have to have it.
