Rhino Revolver

Post by 22lrfan on Fri Jan 20, 2012 11:14 pm

Saw this in a gun shop today. It is one weird looking gun. I've seen pictures of the snub nosed version but didn't know they made a long barreled one. The barrel is on the bottom and the bottom round in the cylinder fires. The articles I've read say they actually shoot pretty good. The recoil is more back and it doesn't have the muzzle flip.

I want one bad! Ever since I heard about them I've wanted one! This is the last gun design by the same guy who made the Mateba auto revolver, and I've been wanting one of those too! I know a lot of people think they're ugly, but I think the bottom barrel orientation is genius and one of the few practical revolver innovations to come out in a while. The internals, on the other hand, look a bit complicated, and I know at first they were having some reliability problems.

Interesting fact, way back when the design was being finalized, it was in the cards to have detachable and swappable barrels and shrouds, like the Dan Wessons. But between then and now, the designer died and all mention of this feature seems to have disappeared...

I didn't have time to get it out and see how it felt. The idea makes sense. The barrel is in line with the web of your hand so the recoil should be straight back. I could have bought a Mateba several years ago but didn't have the cash at the time. That's one I regret not getting.

I definitely want a rhino in either the 2" or 4". Seems like a neat design. A little complicated but neat nonetheless

If I had the money I would buy one right now. It's nice to see a company take a chance and really design something different in an attempt to improve functionality.
