Glock 22/Lone Wolf barrel question
Does the Lone Wolf barrel give complete case support so that I can safely re-load for my .40 cal.? If not, what is required?

Re: Glock 22/Lone Wolf barrel question
If you read the ads by wolf it says fully supported chamber. I am ordering one for my glock, but don't have one as of yet. I am only ordering it so I can shoot cast bullets. As long as you are careful reloading you should be able to do so safely. I have shot a few thousand reloads through my Glock without incident. Some of the other Glock shooters will weigh in soon I'm sure. Cliff said he shot several 100k rounds through his and I'd be willing to bet there was a some reloads in there.

Re: Glock 22/Lone Wolf barrel question
I have 2 LW barrels, one for a G20 and one for a G29.
Yes, they offer much better support BUT you should still work your loads up gradually and inspect case expansion and such as you do it...
The supported chambers are not so much about being able to load 'hotter' as they are about being able to run full power loads while not destroying brass with the OEM 'loose' chambers. The 'loose' chambers offer more reliability in dirty situations, that is their purpose, but that comes at the cost of often sacrificing brass.
Additionally, you may want to look into upgrading your recoil springs and rod assembly...I have done so on both of mine.
Much can be learned here:

LWD barrels are fully supported. You can shoot lead through them. They have traditional rifling. Now, will they feed under extreme conditions, mine have yet to fail and they have thousands of rounds through them. Most comp Glock shooter use LWD or StormLake barrels since Glock doesn't recommend shooting reloaded ammo.

Re: Glock 22/Lone Wolf barrel question
I have 3 LW barrels. 1 for G22, 1 for G21, and a 9MM coversion barrel for the G22. Up until last year, I had never fired a cast boolit through any of my 3 Glocks. However, I experienced some major problems with the 9mm conversion barrel with cast boolits. The chamber is way too tight - much tighter tolerance that the factory barrel. Broke down and started shooting cast in the G17 with factory barrel. No problems so far and I will continue to do it until I start to see signs of pressure and excessive lead buildup.
If you read all the hipe about shooting cast in factory Glock barrels you will see that most of it is towards the 40S&W ... a pretty high pressure round. I have yet to shoot cast through my G22 or G21 factory barrels. Form my experience with the 9mm, I do not think I would hesitated doing it in the G21 ... may have some reservations about the G22.

Re: Glock 22/Lone Wolf barrel question
I think you can reload for a .40 Glock with the factory barrel, you just have to a bit careful on powder selection and not running near the upper end of pressures. I know many folks that have done so. I don't have a .40 Glock but have shot reloads, including cast reloads, through a Glock 21 .45 with no problems and minimal leading with good bullets. Just check early and often until you get a feel for how much leading you are getting.
The Lone Wolf barrel does give more case support from what I have seen and probably a little more peace of mind all the way around. One comment on pressure mentioned by the good Captain. I don't think pressure is the only factor, as the 9mm and .40 both have the same max SAAMI pressure of 35K psi. In fact the 9mm +p is even higher at 38.5K psi. My personal opinion is that the .40's have the most unsupported chambers of the Glocks because Glock somewhat rushed them to market and it was a design compromise to assist reliability. I believe the Glock .40's were the first .40's on the market, even beating S&W that helped develop the cartridge. When a larger diameter round is being fed out of a magazine, its centerline of the round will be lower than a smaller diameter round, all things being equal. In order to obtain the reliability Glocks are known for, they lowered the feedramp and compromised a bit more case support in the process than in their other guns. This was the penalty of releasing the .40 in the exact same frame. Of course the .45/10mm and other designs have got their own frame, and the .357 Sig has the advantage of being a bottleneck to assist feeding.

I have fired hundreds of reloads through my G22 with no problems and no damaged cases. All of these were jacketed bullets. These were not max loads but were toward the upper end of the spectrum.
No lead for me yet.

I have a 9mm lone wolf conversion barrel for my glock 22. I like it but it won't feed still cased ammo. A friend has a lone wolf barrel for his glock 17. He bought it to shoot cast bullets. To bad it won't feed cast reloads.

I have a Lone Wolf barrel for my Glock 21. It eats anything I feed it, and it's very accurate.
