.223 ammo and m193

I found some m193 for a decent price. what is the difference between the m193 and standard .223

M193 is 55 gr. FMJ.

That's in the ballpark for brass cased. Palmetto has XM193 for 287 shipped.

If you shoot a 16" barrelled AR, you'll want the M193 and not the 62 gr. M855, as long as we're talking about FMJ only. The M855 doesn't develop enough velocity out of the shorter barrels to impart good killing power at ranges much over 150 yards. Kind of akin to stabbing someone with an icepick instead of a Bowie knife. Yeah, they may die just the same, but it may take awhile.

The only thing I'd add is that the 855 may be slightly more accurate,although it may not fragment like the 193. That's assuming the barrel is a 7 or 9 twist. I have recovered fragmented 855 at 200 yards, but it was cannelured and split at the groove.

I wouldn't want to get shot by either of them. Smile

The 193 is a 5.56 round also. Lil hotter than the stamdard 223.
We have killed deer out to 350yds with the 55gr fmj stuff. Works good if you can place it right.
