Wesson PD found a 27-2 S&W in the street!

Post by cottonmouth on Mon Jan 23, 2012 6:26 pm

Officer said he was patrolling and saw the gun in the road. An NCIC check showed that it wasn't stolen but he still didn't know who owned it until the poor fella that lost it came to the PD with tears in his eyes. The 27 was given to him by his grandfather and he thought it was gone! It suffered a few scratches on the barrel and front sight but it could have been worse, he got lucky that an honest person came across it!

Can't be that precious to him if he lost it in the middle of the road.

Once a long time ago while i was hunting i had my XDm 40 on my hip. It wasnt comfortable to wear in that holster while driving so when i got to the car i removed the paddle holster with gun in it and set it on top of the car. I them took all my gear off and placed it on the back seat. I them got in my Subaru Outback, cranked up and splashed up the muddy trail to the road. When i got to the road i had a steep climb to get up to road level so i had to give it a little more throttle than usual because it was so muddy. As i bounced up the driveway and onto the road my stomach jumped up into my throat as i remembered id never gotten the Springfield off the roof of my car. Sad i slammed on brakes and jumped out of the car just knowing i was about to have to start the long walk back down the trail in search of my pistol. Luckily, by God's grace there sat my XDm wedged in between my roof rack and roof. It had slid as far as it could go and got stuck, preventing it from falling into the mud. I got lucky. I bet this guy did something similar, only didnt get so lucky.

I found a .270 Weatherby Magnum w/ a Zeis scope one night laying in the middle of the highway. Guy was coming out of the woods and set it on his truck's tool box lid while he got out of some clothes. Got in the cab and forgot about it. It made it about a half mile before he took a turn that caused it to slide off right into the center of the highway. It had a few minor scratches but nothing too bad. He didn't hunt in my club but fortunately it was in a very small town in Alabama (one cross roads but only two stop signs) so I left word I'd found it at the gas station/grocery store/post office/bait and tackle shop and he got in touch with me and claimed it that night.

When I read the title of this thread, I couldn't help but think, "that's not in the street, this is in the street":

Anyone recognize it or know anything about it? It's found in a street inside the city limits of a Mississippi town, supposedly buried during the WPA in the 1930's. There are several stories about how it ended up there, including that it was tossed in to discard evidence after a murder or bank robbery.

Now that is COOL..... Gun cast in concrete.

As for the S&W 27..... I bet that person will not drive off with a gun on the roof again............ Smile

Looks like it was disassembled before it was put in the concrete. I bet there's an interesting story behind how it got there.
