auto 5 dilemma (PROBLEM SOLVED!!!!!)

Post by live2hunt on Mon Jan 23, 2012 7:08 pm

was going to replace a battered wood stock on an auto 5 this weekend, there is one main screw in the bottom of the metal tang that is held by a set screw that has to be removed, set screw came out easily, however the main screw that goes through bottom metal and through the stock to the top of the tang will not budge!!! using wheeler bits so the fit is good, any ideas on how to loosen this screw without breaking it???????

Sounds like it may have come lose before and someone epoxied it back in. 1. Strike it sharply with the proper srewdriver and a hammer @ 90 degrees. In case it is rusted in. If that doesn't work.

2. Heat it with a soldering iron. If it is epoxied, you will smell it when it softens up.

Hope this helps.

+1 on the above.

If its just rusted in try letting some Kroil soak in for a couple hours to a day.

just looking at the metal condition, would be surprised if it is rust, i did remove the set screw and left the gun in a position that penetrating may help,,,,,,,,, may try the hammer strike after a few days of soaking........ just irks me to think someone would possibly loctite that screw!!! forearm came off with no problems, and metal under the forearm was in very good condition,,,,,,, just have to see what happens i guess

Where are you located? you are welcome to use my impact screwdriver if local. A regular screwdriver is probably just going to make it worse.
