Looking for great Vicksburg restaurant

Post by jdphotoguy on Tue Jan 24, 2012 8:01 pm

My wife and I will be heading to Vicksburg for an event and are looking for a great restaurant. We'll be out there on a Saturday and have an event at the convention center at 7PM, so those our the only restrictions and price is not a concern.

Any recommendations of a place we could have an excellent meal and still make it to the convention center before 7PM without rushing?

Rusty's River Front Grill is about as good as you will find in Vicksburg. Clean, friendly, and as fast or slow as you want to go.

Best Restaurant I have eating in Vicksburg (And just about the whole state) is Walnut House. Great country food, and its one of those revolving table places. You sit there with a bunch of other people and the table revolves and you take what you want as it goes by, good conversation, good food, good atmosphere, and the best bread pudding anywhere. It is a little pricey, but definitely worth it.

Anchuca, Rusty's, Walnut Hills, Tony's are all good. Roca's over price for what you get and everytime I've eat there the service was terrible. Beechwood still has the best steak in town.

+1! on Rusty's and Roca's. Service isn't super fast at either, but it also isn't fast food. I work in Vicksburg...this is where we take visitors for lunch and dinner (supper for all us Southerners). Walnut Hills (round table) is a good place for lumch, but expensive for the round table; visitors like it because it is a cultural experience, sorta.

I hear Beechwood is great for steaks, but I've never been there.

I forgot about Beechwood very good steak. Walnut hills is at the bottom of the those mentioned. Not worth the money for the same thing you can get(better) at bovina cafe for $9. For lunch nobody beats bovina.

Rusty's is closer to downtown, everything else is about the same.

Eat the fried shrimp at Beechwood. Their steaks are angus which I do not like.

Avoid the casinos.

Rusty's is not bad but no atmosphere.

Lunch at Walnut Hills is over priced.

Lunch at Bovina is FINE.

Their food is good; their music good.

They are s-l-o-w but the kind of food Southeners ate 50 years ago.

(But they put sugar in their cornbread as I recall. That's a yankee thing.)

Went to Vicksburg yesterday to see Ron White and give Rusty's a try. Everyone in Vicksburg and the surrounding areas came out also, which meant every restaurants had well over 1.5 hour wait. Since we did not have that kind of time, we had a great dinner of mixed nuts and crackers, which we got from Fred's the convenience store.

Have to make a trip back with better planning to try Rusty's or one of the other local spots.

Thanks man, but I look at it this way, it's a good story to laugh about with the wife in the future..."remember the time we went to see Ron White and had that great meal from Fred's, that we ate in the car"

Wives have divorced their husbands for such things. laughatyou

We ate at Rowdy's tonight. The "regular" catfish is great. Avoid the extra thin catfish. Rowdy's is at the intersection of Clay Street and Highway 27---across the intersection from the Beechwood restaurant.
