Ruger M77 Hawkeye Tactical questions...

Post by Yarob on Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:48 am

Anybody here actually own a Hawkeye tactical? I asked on the Ruger forum but only got one reply and it was essentially worthless. If the Tactical doesn't shoot at least as well as the new Ruger American I'm gonna be hard pressed to spend nearly twice what the American will sell for even though I love me some controlled round feed. I don't know if they'll all shoot like Jeff Quinn's did on Gunblast.com (5/16" from a hunting weight rifle!) but that's great accuracy from a target rifle let alone from a skinny barreled 6 1/4 pound hunting rifle! Maybe I'll get both...yeah that's it...both.

I would have to see that 5/16" 100yd group to believe it. I'm always hesitant to believe what he writes, b/c nothing is ever negative.

Here you go. Of course you probably meant you'd have to see it being shot since there's no way to tell what rifle produced this group or when, but I have no reason to doubt the man. Mighty impressive accuracy for a $400 rifle. Still gotta wonder if the Tactical model can hang with it.

I didn't read the article and didn't doubt he had a picture of the group, but anybody can do that group from ten yards. I guess I'm just skeptical of his writing because he seems to praise everthing, like most gun writers. If any gun writer gave the occasional bad report, even if truthful, they'd get less guns to review (which equals less fun) for fear of bad publicity by the maker.

I guess this got off track. If it is a consistent sub 1/2 moa rifle, no doubt they'll sell like hotcakes.

I hope they all shoot as well as his test rifle did! People spend thousands of dollars to get groups like that. The videos I've seen of the rifle in action seem to show no feeding, extraction or ejection problems common to some of the cheaper push feed rifles. I'd still like to get ANY first hand info on the Tactical model.
