Book Review: Apocalypse Law 1 & 2
These two books were suggested to me.
An engineered virus wipes out 90% of the earth's population. The main character (Nate) is a former Army Ranger. He and his teenage son are left alone when Nate's wife and daughter pass away when the virus comes through town. They have a small farm outside of a small town in North Florida. The weather is unusually cold for some reason.
This story takes place a few weeks after the disaster, so they stay away from town because of the looters and other violent types. At first a few local thugs try to get to Nate, but he ends up killing them all. Someone is also stealing Nate's eggs and he finally finds out that its the 24 year old daughter of an Army Colonel. She was trying to get back home to her fiance when the virus hit, but the roads became too dangerous, so she ends up living in the woods. Fortunately, she was 11Bravo and her dad taught her some Ranger tricks, so she is able to fend for herself. Eventually she joins Nate and his son after earning their trust.
The story progresses like most of these where small unorganized bands of local looters and thugs gradually build up to larger and more organized armies of murderers. Needless to say, Nate and his band are able to fight them all off using his Ranger skills.
These books were quick reads. There are some spelling errors and other editing "oops"in there, and some of the scenarios were a little too hollywoodish, but overall it was a good read. It echoed the same message that most of these do....prepare, prepare, prepare.
Think of it as a made for TV movie as opposed to a big budget hollywood movie.
