TankerHC wrote:@Phil Good post. That was an interesting thread. Reminded me of that 1861 Springfield an old lady brought in to Antiques Roadshow. It was original and she had paperwork showing where it was issued to her great grandfathers unit and I think a picture of him with it and they researched it and were able to verify it. I believe they said it came from the Harpers Ferry armory. Had been through many battles. Valued at $100,000

I also remember that Colt SAA they got and the issue with the loading gate. The guy in the thread said the expert was wrong. The expert had said the loading gate on the SAA had the wrong seriel number so it was replaced and lowered the value of the gun. Guy in the thread said the number on the loading gate isnt a serial number, its a manufacturing number and shouldnt match the serial number. So much for the expert.

I watched another Cajun Pawn Stars last night where a guy brought in a Civil War lap desk and two journals. The expert appraised the two journals at around $12,000. I have seen Rick on Pawn Stars buy 3 or 4 of them and never paid over $100. He always tells the sellers that they are a dime a dozen, back in those days everyone kept a journal. To be fair, the one on Cajun was written by someone in Alexandria who witnessed Shermans men burn the city. The expert pointed out that very few relics survived the fire.

After I watched it I thought about it critically and realized the journal said they burned a town, and Alexandria was burned, but I missed where the journal said the town burned was Alexandria.

And...

I'm fairly certain Sherman was never in Alexandia, LA - if that's the Alex. they were talking about.

Banks (Under Shermans Command) burned Alexandria while Sherman was operating out of Mississippi. So I guess it would be possible that Sherman could have been there.

hijacked If only Davis had realized the war fighter he had in Forrest and had given him more resources, Forrest would have handed Sherman his ass and we would have a lot more antebellum buildings and homes left.

Wont be long before someone realizes (That didnt know before) that Forrest County is named after him and forces them to change Forrest County to some other name. I read last year that he was USM's mascott until about 74 when someone got them to change that.

I was born and raised in Pineville (Camp Beauregard.) Here's the overview of the red river campaign http://www.civilwarhome.com/redrivercampaign.htm

So that part about Sherman is kinda right. Anywho, went to the same school with his son "Johnny Drums." He was the same age as my little sister, had to threaten his life to leave her alone!

I'm thinking about pulling in there, when they're next filming, with my U.S. Soldiers Foundation cooker going and bunch of pork shoulders just bout ready to come off.

Walk in there with a steaming tray of meat and try to shame him into sponsoring/putting up some cash for the foundation. It might work out, get some national exposure for the boys and put some money in the pot for those that earned it/need it.

Other than that, I don't watch the show, more dramatized hollywood horsepoop. Alexandria is 40 miles north of coonass territory, so they're as cajun as my Polish/Redneck vegatables (think song Red Solo Cup.)

Cajun Pawn Stars is like any TV show. Its purpose is to get a rise out of the viewing audience. Whether it be positive, negative, non factual
presentation. Remember their main money source is from sponsored advertisement. Besides the old rule of thumb. What the market will
bear. Place a price on a gun. The potential buyer agrees to it.
The transaction is done. Doesn't mean the price paid is the actual
value of the gun purchased. That why researching as you have is a smart way to determine gun value.
