Can anyone recommend a good Jackson dentist?

Post by 9c4me on Thu Jan 26, 2012 10:16 pm

Don't particularly like or trust dentists due to past experiences but broke a tooth and know it needs attention ASAP, had a good one once but he retired. Any recommendations for a trustworthy, reasonable (and painless Wink ) dentist in Jackson area much appreciated!

I go to Dr. Woody Osborne(spelling?) in clinton. Just past MC on the left when heading towards V'burg

he's pretty cool...i usually wind up talking bikes the whole time I'm in there. Never had any procedures done by him though so I can't say how painless he might be.

I use Dr. Campbell on Masonic drive in Clinton. They are pretty good and painless dentistry. They even give you anesthetics when doing a cleaning, my last dentist in Hattiesburg didn't. Only problem is he is real expensive, I have good Insurance so it doesn't cost me all that much. I recommend him, but only if you have good insurance, cause if not, it will cost you a fortune.

Been going to him for years, hes quite good at what he does. He immediately stops when you show signs of pain. He says im the hardest to deaden patient he has ever seen... and that i have the bite pressure of a german shepard after seeing what i did to a porcelian crown.

I've used Paula Stewart in Clinton for the last 10 years or so. I have sensitive teeth and she uses plenty of anesthetic. She also did six veneers across the front years ago, they still look great and I get compliments from time to time. She isn't cheap either.

Tanker, my granny told me if I didn't have anything good to say about someone, not to say nothing. So that's all I have to say about Campbell. Man you must have 1 hell of a pain tolerance.

If someone wants truly pain free denistry and at an afforadable price, call Dr. Andrew Dulaney in Byram. Can't reccomend him enough. And no, I'm not related to him, but he is good.

My wife and I have been using Carla Metcalf on Old Canton Rd in Madison. All female staff that are very professional and if they can deal with my wife's over-sensitive teeth, that says alot!!

I'm not exactly sure what your saying. I said Campbell is a GOOD dentist, he IS my Dentist. I RECOMMEND him. But he is expensive.

@94leverfan. About having the hi tolerance for pain, I'm guessing your commenting on not getting anesthetic for cleanings. It's true, my dentist in Hattiesburg for 6 years didn't do it and over 20 years of army Dentists, never had it done once during a cleaning. In Army, once every 2-3 years I would get a deep cleaning and they didn't even do it then. One thing I like about Campbell, is on a deep cleaning they only do half your mouth at a time (With anesthetic) and you come back on a second visit the same week for the other half.

Dr. Mike Harkins in Clinton is a fantastic Dentist. Very professional and painless. His hygenists are also top notch. I went to several dentists before finding Dr. Harkins. The problems I always had was the Dentist would be ok, but the hygenists were just brutal. My mouth would be a bloody mess after a simple cleaning.

Tanker, what I'm talking about is the level of pain administered while GETTING the deadening shot. Agreed, if you survived that, Campbell was pretty much painless. After a few years of him, I quit going to dentists for a while. Campbell gave you ONE shot, 10 seconds from start to finish. Dulaney will take about 3 passes over 5 minutes, you never feel ANYTHING. Yes, I am a wussy when it comes to pain and needles in my mouth. But I have been to both, done it and got the T shirts. If you don't believe me, try Dulaney ( or Paula Stewart, or hell, anybody else) just once. If you don't agree then, I'll buy the beer(or whatever). All I'm gonna say, have a nice day. Bruce.

PS. I will say this. Back in the day he did have some cuties working for him.. So does Dulaney.

9c4me, best of luck with the tooth and the dentist.

Haha woody is a trip! When I'm in the chair(only had cleanings so far in the 5 or so years I've been going there) he just goes on and on about how pretty my teeth are. And the hygienist, I forget her name, refuses to let me come before about 4:30 because she says she likes to know that her last patient of the day will be easy.

I grew up using Dr. Cope, a pediatric dentist in Clinton, and he was great, but ALL of his hygienists were brutal! And just not pleasant at all except for one older British lady. When I was 12 they had to shave my teeth to try to avoid braces further down the road(FAIL!!!), and the girl doing it was my regular hygienist and she kept fussing at me for squirming...I told her it hurt, and she proceeded to tell me that that was impossible because it wasnt even touching my teeth. I pushed her hand away and told her I may have been 12 but I wasn't stupid...it doesn't hurt and bleed and not touch my teeth all at the same time...she looked at me like I was the kid from the Omen or something...

Never had a sedated cleaning......doesn't really bother me that much so it's no biggie.

Whoever you pick DO NOT go to Carla Rushing in Flowood behind the Lowes.
Her office comes in 2nd and 3rd place for the worst pain I have experienced. I have to keep my kidney stones at 1st place just because the pain lasted so long.

I use Dr. Abernathy at Lakeland dental. Just over the bridge by the Mexican Resturant and the (I think) Conocvo Station. I have to be there Monday.
