springfield 1898 30-40 krag question

Post by live2hunt on Sat Jan 28, 2012 1:02 am

anyone know much about these puppies, i inherited one from my uncle, pretty sure it has been sporterized, lyman front and rear peap site, excellent condition..... bolt is smooth as silk, and everything functions wonderfully, hinge on side box magazine is very tight and bluing is very very good........(no pics available at this time, but maybe in the next few days) i got lucky and aquired some winchester factory loads at hudsons salvage center years ago for 6 bucks a box (only had 10 boxes) but question is what about shooting factory loads in this gun????? should i get out the vise and long string??????? opinions appreciated!!!

ona rife that old, the headspace should be checked before firing. Also check the single locking lug for cracks and if it is cracked find another bolt.
