New Trap Shooting Program in McComb

Post by Doug Bowser on Sat Jan 28, 2012 6:43 pm

SWGC Trap Shooting Event

Hello, my name is Ronnie Adams. I’m a former Marine and enjoy the sport
of shooting.
I have been an associate member of SWGC for the last 7 or 8 years. My
wife, Sheila and I enjoy trap shooting and thought it would be a good idea
to get others interested in the sport.
The club owns two do-all trap throwers. Hopefully we can get together,
shoot some clays and have some fun. If enough interest is shown, maybe
someday we can name our bunch, “Clay busters” and put it on the MS Gun
owner’s forum site.

Weather permitting; the range will be open on Sunday afternoon from 1pm
to 3pm. I plan to be at the range right after lunch to setup the equipment.
We can start having fun shortly thereafter. Emails will be sent to the
membership telling them about the days the trap shoots, will be held, on the Thursday before the
shoot.

Rules: Ear and eye protection HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Cost: $5.00 per single or double round
Guest of members will be allowed
My email address will be included on the Thursday announcement. Be
sure to put subject matter – trap shoot or clay busters.
Hope to see you there.

Where: Southwest Gun Club’s McComb Range facility. It is 6 miles East of McComb, MS on US Highway 98.
When driving from McComb, drive East on US98 until you see the Homestead turnoff sign. Drive 2 miles further and the entrance to the range is on the North side of the road. If driving from Tylertown, MS, drive past the Bogue Chitto River Park and look for a roadside market on the right. The range road is 2.2 miles past the store, on the right. The name of the range road is Edna Drive.

When: The Trap Shoots will be scheduled, weather permitting, on Sunday afternoons beginning at 1:00pm and ending at 3:00 pm but the trap range may stay open longer with the discretion of the match director. You should come to the range as early as possible to be able to shoot. Emails will be sent to the membership telling them about the trap shoots on the Thursday before the shoot.

Equipment: Any shotgun that is safe to shoot using shells that do not exceed 3 dram‐ 1‐1/8 ounces of shot. With a shot size of #6 or smaller (6, 7‐1/2, 8 or 9) Shotgun shells of more power will increase the shot fall zone to dangerous limits.

I might be able to make the ride to McComb from Natchez sometimes. Is there any way we can get more advance notice than Thursday for a shoot on Sunday? Does this happen on a certain Sunday every month (1st, 2nd, etc)?
