ruger mini 14
I am thinking about buying a mini 14, something just to shoot around the house. I hear the 580 series mini is a lot more accurate than the previous models due to manufactoring tolerances. I would like the rifle to at least be under 2" MOA @ 100 yards. Anyone own one or have any oppinions on it?

Not shot the newer ones. They function well and will clear a crowd. I wouldn't compete with one though. Just my .02.

Re: ruger mini 14
I can get about 2-3" at 100 UNTIL the barrel starts to heat-up .... then it will spread to 4-5" with an occasional flyer.
I do not know much about the new ones except they are reported to be a little better due to a stiffer/heavier barrel. I think the real problem with mine is the barrel harmonics. When it gets hot, it flexes and accuracy suffers. Just make sure it has a heavy barrel and not the pencil thin barrel used on the older models.
I really like the weapon - its looks, handling, and operation. However, if you can't trust your life to it, it is of little use to me. I have got one more thing to try. I am going to add a barrel support and see if I can reduce the flexing. A task that is not at the top of my "to do list" right now.
Let us know what you decide!!

Just have someone stand over you with a bucket of water and keep firing.....
They were used in the series the A-team on TV...Yeah I know its TV
Hannibal and BA (Mr T) never hit jack with em either.
From what I remember the Mini-14 came dangerously close to becoming our service rifle to replace the M1 Garand....boy I aint sure about that one...M16 had its problems also but they got corrected after a few body bags
