.22 pistol for beginners
I've been wanting to get another .22 pistol. I also have a friend that is wanting his daughters, ages 8 and 9, to learn to shoot. I have a Ruger target pistol but i was thinking along the lines of the Walther P22 or the Sig masquito.. (dont mind my spelling) I'm also thinking about one of the 22's built on the 1911 platform. Any recommendations?

Sig has a 1911 style I believe. It is a fun gun and priced right.
A friend of mine purchased a 1911 style 22 the other day from vans in brandon and he limes it. Long trigger pull but but good to go other than that. It was under 300.
I want the ruger with the tactical solutions receiver. NICE

Dont know what you think of Chiappa, but I bought a 1911 in .22 LR from a member here and that thing shot great, accurate, never had a problem with it. They go for under $200

Re: .22 pistol for beginners
My youngest started with a P-22 and loved it. She outgrew it pretty quickly and commandeered my MKII. I have a Mosquito as well that I've used to teach several people to shoot. For a child the Walther is easier as it fits smaller hands.
I bought a Sig/Chiappa 1911 and had zero issues with it. A guy at the range played with it while I was there and before I left e offered me more than I paid for it. I told him that and his answer was he had just called every shop in the area and no one had one. I sold him mine and now they are every where for much less. He still brags about how well it shoots.

I started my son on a Walther P-22 when he was around 8, it fit his hand very well and was light enough to be easily handled. Now that he is 13, he has taken my Ruger MK II.

Umarex/Colt has a 1911 style pistol but I have no experience with it or the 7/8ths scale (I think) browning rendition either.
I'd snag an old Woodsman, but on this board the next 452 posts will be about a Ruger Mk II, lol!

Another good choice would be a Ruger Bearcat. It is small and single action.

GSG has a really nice 1911 style 22 that i've tried and seems to perform flawlessly. I prefer it over the colt 1911 that i've tried.

I would avoid the Sig Mosquito. It was the worse .22 pistol I ever owned and was glad to get rid of it.

I like my Mosquito, especially because it's controls and ergonomics are similar to my larger caliber handguns. It does jam sometimes with hollowpoint ammo, but its the only practice I get clearing malfunctions since my other pistols never jam, so I don't mind so much. I haven't had any problems with with regular ammo since the first 200 rounds I put through it.

My little P22 has been good to me, the changeable back straps might help fit the kids hands as they grow....just sayin'.

I know everyone is showing autos. I like a wheel gun. Taught my son and daughter to shoot on a taurus .92 9 shot. Get some speed loaders to teach them fast reloads, muzzle awareness and trigger control.
On the other hand, if you want to teach them to clear jams, buy an auto.

I will be ordering a GSG 1911 this afternoon. They are very nice and are very reasonable in price compared to other .22 autos. 80% of the parts are compatible with other 1911 parts so you can customize it if you'd like. The same pistol TankerHC and trader80 mentioned earlier. Plus never heard of them being picky on ammo and they are a very quiet suppressor host!

I'll opine that Ruger's Mk.III 22/45 is a great choice. It has good ergonomics and the grip width isn't too extreme. Plus, it's scary accurate... and did I mention decently priced too?
While you're at it, don't overlook the Browning Buckmark series of .22 pistols.

The S&W Model 617 would be a great choice if wanting a revolver... but one of these is gonna cost way more than most of the semi-autos... however you'll never regret buying it!

I have a Browning Buckmark Camper that has done Me well as far as a plinker and I taught My daughter, Wife and a friends wife how to shoot with it. Price is cheaper than a Ruger and The camper has a Bull Barrel and good sights. Extra clips are a bit pricey at $29 each, but it's a Good starter .22 and I have owned most all the rest at one time or another. Academy Sports has the best price on the Browning and there are some upgrade models with better sights. Teach them to use an automatic and They will be better off than a revolver. My wife never knew how to work the action of an auto till I made her use this pistol. Just My opinion....

Got my GSG in. Works great. Ran 200 rounds of CCI mini mags through her first performed flawlessly. Then went to the Federal bulk pack, flawless as well. VERY accurate. I was actually surprised at the accuracy of this gun. Gonna try some subsonics and some winchesters and what not tomorrow after class.

Re: .22 pistol for beginners
My Chiappa was a turd. The new ones have a steel hammer and disconnect and I was told they are going to make the sear out of steel as well in the near future. I purchased the upgraded parts for 45 bucks and dropped them in. What did I end up with? A very unsafe positive trigger. The angles are all wrong and now I have to fix that as well. The extractor also needed reworked. I got mad and threw it back in the safe until I feel like fixing the hammer/disconnect angles. Stupid potmetal junk.
For a 1911 clone, GSG or bust.
Man, something about those slab-side Rugers make me
