pistol training course for wife

Post by critt77matt on Mon Jan 30, 2012 5:56 pm

I am looking for a pistol training course for the wife. She has never shot a pistol but decided she wants to learn. I think an instructor telling her what to do will be better for her than me trying to telling her. We are currently in Oxford, MS and don't mind traveling to Memphis, TN or somewhere within an hour or so.

Start out with the Basic Pistol Course done by the NRA. There are plenty of instructors around. I'd recommend Oscar Irvin in Southaven. I just took the course from him last week. He will go at whatever pace the class requires. After that basic, and relatively inexpensive, course, if she wants to do something more advanced, you could go to Rangemaster.

I thought it was the old joke:

Guy 1: "I got a new Glock for my wife."

Guy 2: "Good swap."

lol

Agree with Neck about Rangemaster.

My son and I have taken 3 courses at Rangemaster and they are very professional and well done with an indoor range for training.

There basic handgun course (Level 1) is 8 hours and is the required course to obtain a TN CCW.

Go to Rangemaster.com to see course descriptions and schedules.

Givens is no nonsense and he and his instructors do a great job.

Rangemaster is top notch. Ladies are always in the "coed classes" and they also have great ladies instructors including Tom Givens wife Lynn. Taken three classes myself there while in Olive Branch.

I dont know about there but my wife is taking a self defense/weapons class here in Columbus and it is actualy some of Columbus PD doing it. Maybe you could check through your local PD there. Its like three days. The last day is shooting at the range. Hope this helps and who knows if they get enough requests they may get one together.
