Hey, Jim, that's a mighty big X-ring you guys have on your emblem. Must be a prone target.

Needs to be a prone one. I think you noticed my standing apparatus is kinda sub-standard. :-)
Great match Rick. Good call on the last string.

Thanks, Jim. Hope you didn't hit too much rain going home. See you at BC end of the month.

Great match Rick and Ted. Enjoyed it, I agree with Jim good call on dropping the last string to get everything packed up before the rain moved in.

No Substitute for Experience. Sunday 2/5/2012 02:13 AM
I got the relatively easy task of scoring Bill Lackey's target at Palo Alto this weekend. I say relatively easy because after sighters, you'll most often find Bill's hits somewhere very close to dead center. Now this may not impress anyone but me, but he definitely showed me something this weekend.
Normally upon arriving at Palo Alto one notices the wind flags displaying various degrees of limp, or "limpage" as Decareaux puts it. This past Saturday my arrival found the flags standing pretty much straight out. Normally various degrees of "flappage", as Decareaux puts it, gives a competitor some idea of whats going on. But yall, as most of you know, straight out is straight out. It can be straight out 9 mph or straight out 18 mph - Who knows?. Now this is just a guess but I expect that Mr. Bill probably rolled on about 3 moa into his scope before he even pulled the trigger, as did I. Anyway, Bill's first sighter shot went "BAP!" dead center up and down and somewhere out past the 5 ring left, in the white. In other words, a whole bunch of clicks away from the 10 ring. Bill's my friend so I kinda thought, "Oh man, his goose is cooked for at least the first two record shots" - mine certainly would be. You can imagine my surprise when about 10 - 15 seconds later he said, "BAP!" 10 ring, where he remained basically for the rest of the string.
Like I said this may not impress any one but me, but for his first five record shots, I could be heard after each shot to say,
"Whoa!"
At a certain level of shooting skill, where the shots fall is many times situational and time dependant, but what Bill did Saturday - That's good shooting. That's experience shining through.

I'm not impressed! I can hit a "5" as well as anyone!
And, I prove it over and over!

Thank you Jim but what you did was mighty impressive to say the least. I hated to mark you that 9 on the last shot because I know what a kick in the nads it is to break a perfect score on shot 20. But you were consistent and showed good wind reading skills on the second string.

Hey looks like I'm on the x-men team.
Limpage divided by flapage times anglage equals aimage. Of coarse this doesn't work at BC. Just aim left it you hit right. This will work most of the time.

See now there you go Dec. That kind of scientific disclosure is why I need to hang around with you - Mr. 399.

Re: Who's Going To Palo Alto (Feb 4th) ?
One of the things I enjoy about calling the matches is a chance to watch the shooting going on and spending time in the pits without having to worry about shooting myself. This past Saturday was a great example as I could hear the shots being called by the scorers on 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 and walk around and get a peek at scorecards.
When in the pits, I heard a lot of those "whoa's" from the guys pulling on targets 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7.
I also heard a lot of "was that me?" from the pits. When you put the bullet in the same hole in the berm, it gets kinda hard to see it!

Rick, you did a great job as match director this weekend. I have no idea why anyone would want that job. You had big shoes to fill. Lanny always did an awsome job. I'm not sure what would happen at BC without Bill.

Thanks, David. Believe it or not, compared to my job, I find it very relaxing.
