SW Gun Club HP Rifle (XTC) match this Saturday, February 4, 2012

The Southwest Gun Club of McComb, MS will host a High Power Service Rifle Match this Saturday, , at the Bogue Chitto range. The course of fire will be the NRA 50 rd National Match course. The course of fire is below.
Please confirm if you are planning to come; I will keep a close eye on the weather and will send out at least one additional email, no later than Friday afternoon / Friday evening. Right now there is a 40% chance of thunderstorms. Rain won't necessarily cancel the match but any lightning will, I don't want to be in the middle of the range at the 300 yd line with lightning strikes!!
Please check your email and if you are uncertain call before driving to the range. Likewise I need to know how many plan to come, if there will be insufficient attendance I will cancel the match. If 8 shooters confirm we will conduct the match.

WHERE: Southwest Gun Club’s Burns Range at Bogue Chitto, MS., Exit I-55 at Bogue Chitto (Exit 30), drive east through town, cross over the railroad tracks and continue to the first crossroad (Pricedale Road), turn left and go 100 yards to Hunter Road, turn right and drive approximately 2.2 miles, look for a large gate and "SWGC" sign on the south side of the road.
WHEN: Sign-up time is 8:30AM and shooting starts at 9:00AM. Gate will open no later than 8:00am.
RULES: NRA Highpower Rifle Rules shall apply.
ENTRY FEES: $10.00; Junior fees will be $5.00
CLASSIFICATION: Will be done by NRA Rules. NRA temporary score books will be issued and scores entered for each tournament.
NOTE: NRA LEAGUE WILL BEGIN WITH THE MARCH 2012 MATCH AND RUN FOR 12 MONTHS.
FIREARMS AND AMMUNITION: Service Rifles may be used under Rules 3.1, 3.11 and 3.12. NRA Match Rifle Rule 3.3. Any Sight Match Rifle, Rule 3.3.4, including telescopes may be used but scores are not reported for Classification. Any ammunition safe to fire is allowed except tracer or incendiary
COURSE OF FIRE: NATIONAL MATCH COURSE:
2 sighter shots at 200yards in 2 minutes (any position)
1. 10 shots slowfire standing in 10 minutes on SR Target at 200 yards
2 sighter shots at 200yards in 2 minutes (any position)
2. 10 shots in sitting or kneeling 60 seconds on SR target at 200 yards
2 sighter shots at 300 yards in 2 minutes (any position)
3. 10 shots in prone in 70 seconds on SR-3 target at 300 yards
2 sighter shots at 600 yards 2 minutes
4. 20 shots prone slowfire in 20 minutes on the MR-1 Target at 600 yards
5. Aggregate: Total of Stages 1-2-3-4

I plan to be there if this is a go.

Not looking good. weather.com showing a 70% chance of rain with thunderstorms. We can deal with rain maybe but lightning no. I will continue to monitor & make a decision tomorrow afternoon (Friday).

OK the forecast is predicting 80% chance of rain with thunderstorms. If you are willing to drive to Bogue Chitto and risk cancellation - if there are ANY lightning strikes / thunder indicating possible lightning the match will be cancelled immediately - please let me know by PM. I will continue to monitor the forecast, as well as how many are willing to drive there and risk rain / lightning cancellation, and post a decision as soon as possible after 4:00 p.m. tomorrow (Friday Feb. 3, 2012) afternoon when I get off w*rk. Right now I am leaning toward CANCELLATION.

The various weather sites (NOAA, weather.com, wunderground) peg the forecast at 60-80% rain and all say thunderstorms (= LIGHTNING) so I have to be cautious and cancel. If it is at all possible to re-schedule I will let the HP list and this forum know ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up. Sorry the weather is not co-operating.

Yeah, but ... we aren't at 300 very long (2 RFP relays) and then at 600 .
Plus ask the F-Class guys about their pop ups going sailing and doing serious $$ damages to their own vehicles on the tree line.
I also imagine that if they (the pop up tents) are the highest structure out on that 18acre field, they would be a lightning rod.
I am going to check the schedule for the 18th and see if that is feasible. Stay tuned.
