How to ship a firearm

Post by bigdaddy on Thu Feb 02, 2012 5:46 pm

A family member in another state has a pistol that they are wanting to pass along to me and they want to ship it to me. What is the proper procedure, find a FFL in that state and have them ship to an FFL in this state? Sorry I know this is probably an elementary question but I just have never delt with this before. Thanks in advance for the help.

hand gun, or long gun. makes a difference. hand gun has to be shipped form a ffl to a ffl and you have to go through all the paper work as i recall. ask Doug, hes the gun guru here

Any gun has to be shipped to a ffl, not just handguns. the owner of a gun can ship it to himself in another state care of someone, but not to another person direct as in a sale. Some ffls will not accept shipments from an individual, its not law that you have to ship from an ffl to an ffl.
