Purchased S&W 642 .38 (got it)

Post by bulldog ducker on Fri Feb 03, 2012 12:25 pm

Placed a bid on one at gunbroker and didn't make the reserve. The owner contacted me thru gunbroker and said that he would take my bid of 300 +15 shipped if I wanted the gun. I think this is a really good deal so I should have it in a week or so...

what do yall think did I get a deal?

Decent price. With or without lock?

Run by Van's and see what one cost there and you'll feel good about the deal!

If its new, you bought it below dealer cost.

Price is the same for with or without internal lock.

That's probably a great deal if it's in good shape or new. Mine was about $360, new.

Yeah, not a bad deal, I have found them new online for around $325, but once you factor in shipping, FFL transfer fees and everything it's a bit more.

I have one on my hip in a CTAC today! I love mine and it is a good shooter. It gets carried a lot during the summer and depending on what i'm wearing, I carry it during the winter too. I have CT Grips on mine too!

I picked it up yesterday... Looks like it has been fired more than adevertised but it hasent been fired much. Not a scratch on it. Cost+shipping+ffl fee=$325. Couldn't be happier with gun or price.

Hope you got a good one. A friend just got one, and in less than one box of PMC target ammunition it became hard to open. The threads on the ejector rod were apparently partially engaged and ultimately ended up stripped, causing it to be too long and not able to disengage from the connection point at the barrel. It's going back to Smith. They have a great reputation, so I assume this is pretty rare and Smith will take care of it. Still a bummer on a brand new gun though.

I've heard negative things about their QC but as I understand it they do stand behind their product and make good in those cases.

Picked up a fobus holster and 250 rounds while in hattiesburg at gander mountain. They had a sale on .38, 380 9mm... 250 rounds of blazer fmj for 89 bucks. I think I am going to like this holster. Any of yall use one for your j frame?
