Would one of you A/C and ventilation experts please take a look at this?
Had our ventilation system cleaned today. Was told by the supervisor the entire ventilation system has mold and that it will be $800 to clean it. I had him take some pics with my camera. IS this mold? Is $800 a decent price to get it cleaned if it is? The house is an 1800 Sq Feet with a cathedral ceiling in the living room and high ceilings everywhere but the guest bedroom. The attic is well ventilated. The house is 12 years old, has never been flooded or anything like that but we do live on a small lake. I worked for FEMA in mitigation before moving over to security and Mold was one of the things we taught, for it to be as moldy as they claim they sure werent taking precautions, no ventilation masks, up in the attic with the air pumps blowing, they didnt seem too worried about it to be experts. Here's the pics, what do you think?

Pretty normal for a system that old.....Good idea about the bleach, but I would dilute it a little more, maybe 4-1 because it doesn't take much....Make sure you don't get it anywhere you don't want bleached.

TURN OFF THE BREAKER BOX TO THE UNIT. Probably on a 50 amp breaker so you don't play with 220. Get some acid made for A/C coils, get it at most A/C parts houses, spray it on and rinse well. Much stronger than clorox for the coils, removing much more than mold. Spray the water from the inside out. The clorox idea is good for the duct but pick a day when you are not going to be there. You do not even have to run the a/c, just the fan. Change your filters monthly (Cheap ones do as well changed every month than the ones that cost 10X as much and need to be changed every three months).
$800? That's a joke. They'll hit you with the sell's pitch on what all they are going to do. Same thing as the above but you're only spending $25 and an hour of your time.

Do not use acid on the inside evaporator coil.
Find the breaker/s (may have two) for the Air Handler.
Your blower probably needs to be pulled and cleaned.
Fairly easy to pull just label your wired.
Get a can of evap-foam cleaner from an A/C supply house if they will sell it to you (some have started to only sell to companies).
Brush the big stuff off the coil with a hard bristle brush straight up and down the fins. Wipe down the inside of the cabinet with some type of cleaner while the blower is out.
After the blower is back in spray evap-foam on the coil on both sides and turn unit on.
A UV light should help keep it from coming back.
I've cleaned who knows how many units like yours. Almost every Air Handler does this. I've never gotten sick from cleaning one.
Pm me if you need some help.

purple cleaner does a pretty good job on coils. run into this on trucks. Bleach will kill the mold. just a messy job, but all a/c units do this.

It's actually the spores produced by mold that can be hazardous if they are airborne.
99% of mold spores are not especially dangerous.
Air everywhere contains mold spores. You cannot get away from them.
Any place that stays moist WILL grow mold.
Use clorox (I use 100% clorox) in a spray bottle.
