Fella said it ran between "20K and 77k" to catch an abuser. They said the test run as high as $76 per, you trying to tell me ~1 in 1000 (I know expenses for red tape so just roughly) is abusing drugs. Fella that said that musta been smoking some rope himself.

The little kits we use at work are about $7 each. So that means the govt is probably willing to pay $70.

I have a copy of the legislation sitting around somewhere in my desk. I received it at a gun show on the Coast last year

Re: Drug testing
"Opponents claim the proposals are unfair and not cost effective. A Feb. 3 brief by the Center for Law and Social Policy, a low-income advocacy nonprofit, cited a 1996 study that found the proportion of welfare recipients with a substance abuse problem is consistent with the proportion of nonwelfare recipients with the same."
Non-Profit, they still make money, only these people are making off "Advocating" for the poor. On the bottom sentence I call BS! Whenever you read about these drug studies the poor always use drugs disproportionately to the middle class and rich. In fact, drug use among the poor is always used by the "advocacy" groups to demonstrate the unfairness to the poor.

Re: Drug testing
News today is that Pennsylvania has started drug testing welfare recipients.
But because Florida got stopped by a Federal judge in their plan to drug test all welfare recipients (possible 4th Amendment issue), Pennsylvania is only randomly drug testing welfare recipients who have been arrested within the past 5 years, or something along those lines.
The article said that lots of other states are initiating similar laws.
And Florida is appealing the Court Order that stopped them.

Re: Drug testing
I wholeheartedly support the concept of drug testing welfare recipients but testing everyone is impractical and not many will fail... testing EVERYONE means there are huge numbers of elderly and disabled to be tested, many are on legit Rx meds that must be validated during the testing process, etc. Plus, dopers know how to pass a SCHEDULED urinalysis.
Instead of that, I'd propose anyone convicted of any crime involving drugs, DUI, theft, or violence, be disqualified from receiving benefits for xx years after conviction.
That way you don't have to test granny but you can stop subsidizing the addicts, alcoholics, and thugs.
