Another J frame airweight
There’s been a lot of chatter on here lately about the S&W j frames in 442 and 642. I recently got one as well. I’m not going to trade in my Glocks any time soon but it’s nice to get back to your roots sometimes. I forgot just how well a small revolver carries. Here’s my 642. It has hyena brown VZ G10 grips. I installed an Apex duty / carry spring kit and polished the innards a little. She’s got a slick trigger pull now. I love these little guns but the factory trigger pull is less than perfect. I also loaded up a pile of +p ammo with 158gr Hornady XTP bullets. The spare ammo rides in Bianchi speed strips and the revolver tucks well out of sight in a Galco IWB holster.
I highly recommend the VZ grips and Apex spring kit if you’re looking to get just a little more comfort out of a j frame.

Looks great! Mine is on my belt as we speak.
I installed a Wolff reduced power spring kit in mine and I'm really happy with it!

I have coated a few of these little guys and polishing the insides goes a long way for sure. Some of those springs can be ridiculous to get back in tho. If I end up picking up a revo I would have my eye on one of these.

The Apex spring kit helps a lot. It includes a reduced weight trigger return spring, main spring, firing pin spring, and a reduced mass firing pin. All of this works together to ensure that the revolver will still be reliable. The lighter trigger pull also reveals problems with the finish work. It’s safe to say that S&W didn’t spend a lot of time slicking these up before they left the factory. With a little attention to detail all of that can be corrected. These things should have been done at the factory but then they would have had to charge a lot more for then. I guess cost cutting is beneficial to us in a way. We learn more about or guns when we’re forced to fix things that the manufacturer didn’t get right the first time around.

I've been thinking of getting a jframe just because of the VZ grips!
