Any Springfield Xd shooters out there?
I have owned 5 of the Xd series pistols and I absolutely Love Them. My last purchase was the XD 45 Service with the Thumb safety. I haven't seen very many of these and I was wondering if anyone else picked up one of these models. I think the addition of the thumb safety was a real step up for this brand pistol. I can't understand why Springfield never carried it over to the other models. The Gun is perfect in every way and shoots better than some 1911's I have owned. First one I ever shot was a .45 and I grouped all 6 rounds closer than I ever hoped to with any other pistol. Who else likes this brand??

My brother has the XD45 with the thumb safety. My understanding is that this model with the thumb safety was Springfield's entry for the SOCOM pistol trials, and one of the requirements for that trial was the addition of a manual thumb safety for guns that didn't have a decocker. Hence that being the ONLY model Springfield offered with a thumb safety.

It's a GREAT IDEA!! They should think about including it on EVERY model. I absolutely Love Mine and I have had several people try to buy it from Me. I told them to go and order one. When I went to order it from Big Buck Sports, I got a Funny look from the man behind the counter. He ( in all His Wisdom) said that They never made one until I got Him to look at the catalog. He was surprised. I got it when it first came out about a year ago. I like the sight picture when looking down the barrel and it's a lot better than a Glock!!...Oh Boy I started something now!!

Have no need for a thumb safety....safety is between your ears

Bought one of the first XD 9mm when they first came out. Great gun, could shoot it much better then any gun I had owned before. Then went on to buy a XD SubCompact in 9mm, an equally nice gun.
Also owned several of their 1911's and they too are great, but now I'm down to a 1911 TRP Operator in 45 and a XD(m) 5.25 in 40 on order.

I have an XD40 Service, love it. I test drove it and the Glock before I purchased and the XD won out hands down. Never looked back. Want to get my dad an XD40SC but I gotta find a deal.

I have a XD40 Service and have been carrying it for a few months. LOVE that gun. Unfortunately, it is on the backburner right now because I just got a Kimber Stainless TLE II.

Ive had a XD service 40 with heinie pro night sights for about 6 years now? Put over 35k rounds thru it and only had problems wearing out the springer precision trigger bar springs every 8-9k rds. So put the stock stuff back in with the SP sear and sear spring.
Besides that, never had any issues.
Been carrying a xdsc 40 for about 4? Years. Shot it a bunch and enjoy it.
I absolutley hate a safety. Most of them dig into my strong hand and are aggravating.

I've got a xdm 9mm compact 3.8 that I use for concealed carry and love it. Its a little on the heavy side for every concealed situation, but nothing I haven't been able to overcome with a good belt and iwb holster.

Re: Any Springfield Xd shooters out there?
I have owned all but the 9mm caliber and just can't seem to go that route. I have a Browning Hi-Power I have had for 21 years that handles the 9mm urge. The 45 cal. XD seems to do everything I want and is very controllable compared to the XD .40 caliber I owned. Love that .45. I owned a Taurus Millieunum Pro .40 for a year or so and I liked it's compact size, but I didn't like the magazine falling out everytime I shot it. It was the way I normally hold with both hands and My left thumb that kept tripping the release. No Problem with the XD falling out. I like the strong magazine release spring and it feels really solid and a positive lock everytime. Glad to know that Springfield XD's are live and doing well!!!

The Springfield XD 40 is the issued duty weapon here at Ridgeland PD. They are every bit as good as a Glock.
