SOTA arms???

Post by Zachgoodson on Thu Feb 16, 2012 9:34 pm

Has anyone had any dealings with sotaarms.com ? I'm looking for a 6.8 upper and found these along with other caliber uppers. Seems to be resonably priced but I've never seen this brand before.

Never heard of them, but your right the do have some good prices on uppers, especially the 6.8 and 300Blkout.

I have been wanting to build a 300Blkout and using one of their uppers $439,a Surplus Arms lower $79(including tranfers fee), CMMG lower parts kit $60 and buttstock I already have I could build a complete rifle for little over $600 figuring in shipping, nobody sells a complete 300Blkout for anywhere close to that. I'm really interested in hearing about the quality of these uppers if anyone knows.

I purchased a 7.62x39 upper from them last month. The price they list includes the shipping. The barrel is a Wilson barrel all components seem to be well made. It feed well with ASC mags. Using Tula ammo it had a 50% FTF rate. I turned the firing pin in a drill press and a small flat file and now have 0 FTF after 200 rounds. The upper is as accurate as my Colt 5.56 at 100 yrds in a lead sled. I just ordered the 300 blk out. BTW Karri's gun has lowers cheap. Same manufacturer that makes them for Spikes. I April they go down to $159.99. I assembled they are $149.99.

Got tons of complete lowers laying around here. I'm a lower whore. If I see one at the gun show I have to fight the urge to buy it.

Yeah the Lowers that Bunkerhill has are $100 and $135 complete. They are polymer however. But most semi pistols made now are too. Thanks for your input Buyusa! I look forward to your input too BigdaddyQ.

Yea, I canceled my order on 300 blackout yesterday with DSA. Thery were supposed to be shipped second week of Feb. but said it may be weeks or months before they get any. Think I may just build a 308.

I purchased a polymer complete lower LW-15 from Joeboboutfitters.com made by New Frontier Arms if you use the coupon code "chatterbox" the total comes to $94.50 w/ FS. They claim they're stronger than plumb crazy. It was so cheap I couldn't pass it up. Karri's guns also has a complete 5.56 upper with a free float quad rail for $389.99 + $9.99 shipping for those looking to plink. It has a Wilson arms barrel like the SOTA Arms stuff. This is the cheapest free float quad I could find. Sota wanted $50 more to add a free float quad rail.

I didn't see that option for a free float. Thats a good deal most free float quads I've seen are in the $100 range. I got fed up with DSA also everytime I called they added a few weeks at first it was Feb 6th then it got to March 6th. I think they were full of it.

BigDaddyQ to get the quad from Sota you need to call them for it. It is not advertised on their site. I'm not sure who makes the quad. Rail. I went with their standard free float tube in the pic on their site. FYI mine didn't have the fluting as in the pic but it was close. I'm really happy with my purchase and I'm pretty picky. For the price you can't beat it.

I called them yesterday and they called me back today. Really nice guys but they told me $60 for the quad rail. So I opted for it anyway. They said they have plenty of barrels in 300 blackout so I'm excited. He told me usually takes 3 days for assembly and then ships. So I should be holding it first of next week. Gonna buy some bullets this weekend and possibly a NV scope. Still waiting on Dixie to tell me they got everything done with their cans so I can start the wait on one from them.

If you go to richiespng.com/product.php?item=136515 you can get Remington 300 blk out 115 gr for $11.06 for a box of 20. You need to order fast. I just bought 1000 rds.

I received my NFA LW-15 polymer lower and I am no so happy. I should have spent $65 more for another surplus ammo upper from Karri's guns. The trigger pull is not so crisp. It's okay but not great. It looks good and the adjustable stock is nice.

Close,$551.00 I plan to reload the spent brass. The ROI is fast if you shoot a lot and it's a great deal.

ROI? I probably will just buy the dies and expand the hundreds of 223's I have laying around. I already have plenty of 175gr bullets laying around too. I'm quite sure I can get those subsonic. Although i'll probably be buying some 220grainers soon.

I received my 300 blkout from SOTA today. It was packed well. The quality looks good like the 7.62 I bought from them earlier. I noticed it had a black muzzle flash hider instead of stainless. I called Dave at SOTA and he said I can either send it back or he would send me a stainless flash hider on Monday. I opted for him to mail me the stainless flash hider. I mounted it onto my NFA lw-15 lower and it fit like a glove. I plan to break it in on Sunday.

I finished the break-in process for my new 300 this past Sunday and it ran like a top. I did notice it was putting a small ding on the case mouth when I examines the spent brass. I was shooting the 125gr Remington 300 blackout super sonic. The gun was accurate shooting from a bag at 100 yards. I didn't have the sled to compare to the 7.62, but I'm assuming it will be as close. I think it was a good deal for the upper.

Nice looking upper. I've got it narrowed down to a couple different uppers for myself. But SOTA is the only one with a free float hand-guard.

How do you find the overall quality of the upper and the hand-guard? I'm leaning toward their upper in 5.56, stainless.

BigDQ and others, I just pulled the trigger on a 300BLK complete upper purchase from Sota Arms. Today I looked around the Internet at other vendors and Sota had them beat by far. Prices varied from $390 for an upper less BCG and CH to $600 for complete upper. The more I looked at the Sota's upper style, the more I liked it. Now the wait begins for delivery.......

I got lucky I quess it was only 12 days from day I ordered to day I got my upper. Now just meeting MStrophyhunter tomorrow to start my wait for a 308 can. Gonna have him flute and thread a .223 for me and my 308. So I'll have 3 rifles that can use the same can. I'll probably only use it on the 300 and the 308 though.

Sounds good. I need to order some brass and get the dies. I'm thinking about just using the 175's I have since I have around 1k of them. Although if they don't cycle good I'll nut up and buy some 220's. I think Nonnielsman told me the other day berger may be making a 240gr hybrid 30cal bullet

The 175s might not cycle sub-sonic, but they could be some BADA$$ mid-velocity ammo................. Sometimes THUMP is better than ZING.............. Smile

I have wondered what is the max bullet weight 300BLK will handle. I bought the 225gr BTHP Hornady bullets because they were "on sale" (still too much $$$$). There has to be a point were too much bullet is in the case with not enough room for powder................... But when you go sub-sonic and are limited on velocity, you want WEIGHT....... Smile

I think with 10 grains in the case it won't take up a lot of room and a very large bullet would not compress the load

BigDQ, have you seen the Remington 115gr CTFB 300BLK ammo? I bought a box ($20) at the Capitol City Gunshow. The bullet is L O N G for a 115gr bullet. I am thinking the nose of the bullet is hollow (but not a hollow-point). The bullet is flat base, not boat-tail.

No have not seen it. I am under the assumption most lighter bullets will be shorter. I have seen the 225 hornady and don't think it is excessesive. I would think the berger would be real close in length although I have only heard about it from nonnie just a day or so ago while picking up some more steel ball bearings for monkey fists. I need to really check it out more. I haven't even begun to start getting loading material for it. I know I have a 6 month wait and need to get some optics before I run out of spendin money.
