.223/5.56: Best "VALUE" Ammo

Post by sayle on Wed Apr 11, 2012 9:36 am

I am looking into buying a bulk package (1,000 rnds+) of .223/5.56 ammo in the near future. What is the best "value" ammo to get? I know Wolf is a good price but I've heard negative things about that ammo. Mainly corosion.

Any thoughts? thinking

I like the Federal/american eagle. Good Lake city brass. You can find it for about .30 a round. Check Natchez.

I always get confused when I hear anybody talk about Natchez. Having grown up in Natchez, I usually think "where in Natchez are they buying this stuff?"

my rule of thumb for what i look for:
all per 1,000
brass cased: $300 (ae and pmc)
steel cased: $200 (wolf variants)

I've seen their site and catalog, but never ordered anything from them. It just confuses me for a second when I see it mentioned. Guess that's just part of getting old. lol

Prices seem to rising a little, but Natchez hasn't yet. Have seen some good prices on Aguilla. Haven't used their .223, but have shot a lot of their .30 Carbine with good results. Good brass also.

Really like federal/ae. If i could find a case id buy it in a minute. Accurate, less than 50cents a round, and brass cases. Sropped buying steel cased stuff cause i felt like im throwing my money away. Save the cases and reload. Rework cases for .300 blackout. NO MORE STEEL CASES. i know it looks like i cant spell. Thats just stupid mobile phone keyboard. Half the time i cant see what im typing.

I have started using Target Sports USA. Their prices are in line or lower than most but they also have FREE shipping when buying by the case. ]https://www.targetsportsusa.com/c-83-223-remington556mm-ammo.aspx#Filter=[Pagesize=124*Sort=5*ava=0]
