Red Instead of Blue

OK! I know there are a lot of you who may say wrong decision. I purchased the Hornady AP press for several reasons. The first of which is the bullet rebate. My press cost about $375.00 from Midsouth Shooters Supply. The retail price on the bullets I am getting is $300.00 (1,000 45 Cal bullets for 21.95 shipping/handling). So, basically my press costs about $100.00 after I get the 1,000 "free" bullets. Second, Hornady now has a good case feeder that is more economical than the "blue" case feeder when you factor in everything you need for 5 different calibers (9mm, 38 Spc, 40 Cal, 45 Cal, and .223 Rem) that I will be reloading. Third is the Hornady bushing setup that allows for quick die changes without a lot of costs. Your dies screw into the Lock-n-Load bushing and you setup the press. The dies never leave the bushing. Just pop out the die/bushing setup and pop another caliber in. There are other reasons for me going Red instead of blue but I don't have time right now to go into all of them. I just figured that it was more economical to go Red to get the same job done that I would get if I had gone Blue. Now, let's hear from the "Blue".

I have the same press and it is excellent. I have also had blue and I sold it. There was a time when Dillon was the only progressive press to have. Not anymore. Blue or red both will serve you well. Dillon has a great warranty and I have yet to test Hornady in that regard. Blue is more expensive to set up and Red has the great bullet deal still going apparently. Just ignore anyone who tries to say one is better than the other.

I also have a Lee classic for loading my .308 and .243 loads. I like to go slow and perfect for those rounds. Even weigh and discard bullets, powder weight to the enth degree. You guys probably do the same with your favorite loads. I love when some novice comes buy and mocks me for weighing my powder so carefully. I just nod without a comment knowing in my mind I am much better than they are.

I'm a blue boy, but I will tell you this. I'll give you my opinion on the Dillon equipment and you can do with it what you please. This is why its my opinion! I will never tell you that mine is better, faster, safer, or cheaper. I started out on a dillon have never found a reason to switch. I am glad to see that you are happy with your purchase as this means you will be reloading with something you like.

I have orange (Lyman), have never seen the need to go progressive. Red is good stuff and you will like it.

They all perform pretty well to my understanding. It usually boils down to personal preference and/or $$'s. I would love to have a Blue One for my pistols but just can't seem to stop buying more guns and reloading supplies (powder, primers, and moulds) ...

I turned Red a year ago and have no regrets. I've loaded .38, .40 and 9 mm on my press and have had no problems. Dillon is a great machine but in my opinion Hornady has found ways to accomplish the same results for much cheaper. For example the "powder cop" (~$30) may not have a fancy alarm but it is very effective. A wooden dowl sure makes a great primer level indicator! I hope you enjoy your new press as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I Am A Blue User , But Also Have A Few Red Tools . I Reload Atleast 5 cals. and like the time saving to do so . Takes Just A few Minutes To Swap Out Complete Dies And Powder Measure . Red Tools Are Grunt Tools For Mil. Brass and any other old stuff that is given to me . Also Like The Dillon Support , They Can't Be Beat .
