Garand and Vintage HP Match at SGC's Burns Range Today...
Hi guys:
First, for you local Magnolia HP shooters that didn't go today....... You missed an EXCELLENT match day at Southwest Gun Club's Burns Range. The McComb HP shooters are the nicest guys you will meet. A super nice guy named Trevor (from LA) was my instructor/mentor for teaching me how a target pit works. What to do... and what NOT to do. Yes, he barked at me once, but I deserved it....... Thanks Trevor.
Before I show you guys the range layout, I need to show you some items to keep things in perspective......

Notice how BIG the target boards and target numbers are. OK, you got that.....?

The 600 yard firing line. Yes, that is a LONG way.................

The 300 yard firing line.

The 200 yard firing line.

This is Mr. Burns checking out the match setup. The owner of this wonderful range.

These 2 pictures show the target pit. The Burns Range has 10 target frames in the pit.
PS: I wish that was my Rapid-fire score on the chalkboard.......
From another match date.

These 2 pictures show the "pit tools" needed to score the targets.

This is what you see looking up at the target.

While the slow-fire scoring is done after each shot, this is what a scored rapid-fire target looks like.

My match ammo and score card before the Garand match. $9 for 35rds of LC-67 30-06 ammo is hard to beat. But the club does keep the brass & clips........
My score card after the Garand match. Out of 10 shooters, my 255-2X won the match. Note: I thing those guys took it easy on me (being a 1st time visitor)....
Max possible score was 300. Phillip was right on my heels with a 254-3X.
NOTE: All shooting today was from 200 yards................... These type matches were designed to be shot at 200yds.
Next up..................... The Vintage Bolt-action match. 8 shooters shot in this match.

This was my spot for the Vintage Bolt-action match. I was shooting my M24/47 Yugo Mauser (8mm). In this match I came in 3rd with a 243-1X. The winner was.........................

This young (Junior) fellow. Sorry I didn't catch his name, but he kicked all our "old butts".....
That is Doug with the Vintage match winner. Speaking of Doug.........................

That is Doug calculating (pencil-whipping) the match scores.....
Hey Doug, I guess that $Ben$ I slipped you paid off today....?
MAN ! ! ! Today was a VERY enjoyable day. The hat pin awards I got for 1st in Garand and 3rd in Vintage while small in price, are now 2 prized "trophies" that I am PROUD of. I debate on taking them out of the wrappers..........
Again...... You local Magnolia guys missed a GREAT match today. Next year we need to visit the Burns Range often (and shoot at 600yds).
Oh yeah........... Since I heard MS State beat Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl. My 4-day T-Day weekend just took a dump......

Good shooting. Glad you had a good time. We need to bring that your Yugo Mauser and my Russian Mosin to the next M&G. I'd like to check it out. Never seen them side by side. Lot of history in those two models.

Name of Junior shooter
Thanks for the kind words. We extend a welcome to all shooters on the forum to attend any of our tournaments. We conduct rifle and pistol matches at both of our ranges.
By the way, the Junior shooter is Garrett Rayborn. He is 15 and is a great air pistol shooter as well.

Thanks for the kind words Dan. I hope more will come to these matches, they are a lot of fun. We plan to schedule more of these in 2010 as the interest in such matches seems to be growing.
See you at the ranges,
Phillip
(still can't believe I had a "M" in the offhand stage...grumble grumble...1 point...grumble)

We have a Garand Clinic coming up in May 2010. It qualifies a participant to buy a Garand from the CMP. We furnish m1 rifles and ammo for the event.
