My Rem 700, 300saum likes 180gr Accu Bonds loaded with 60gr IMR 4350 with Rem 9 1/2 mag primers. Haven't started working up a load for my 300wm yet.

My 300 Win Mag shot 165 Sierra SBT better than 180 Accubonds. They were both very accurate with IMR 4350. Work up to 71 grains IMR 4350 with the 165 Sierra SBT. Very accurate and deadly in my 300 Win Mag.

What kind of MOA does that load shoot for you? I am not familiar with the Sierra SBT bullet, is it a good big game bullet? The Lyman's doesn't give any loads for Sierra in 165 gr, what velocities is thta load shooting at? I appreciate your input.

SJ, I love Sierra Boattail soft points. Very accurate, great bc, economical and deadly on Whitetail. Velocity in my Rem. 700 averaged 2950 fps. I consistently shot 3 shot groups 1/2 - 3/4" at 100 yards. I killed 2 Whitetail bucks 225 pounds and 210 pounds this past hunting season that dropped in their tracks with that load. Be sure to use the Soft point boattail and not the hollow point. I found the hollow point too fragile. It was deadly but didn't exit.

I shoot the Sierra Gamekings in my 7 MM Mag, 300 Win Mag and shoot the 225 grainers in my 35 Whelen. They have never disappointed me.

So if you were to use some Green Dot under a 230 gr FMJ, what kinda load might make a reasonable, consistent, and comfortable starting point? Go up from the aforementioned 4.5 or start there?

I would like to remind everyone to consult loading data in a few reputable loading manuals before trying out a load that someone else has posted here. I am sure that most of us would do that, but I want to remind everyone just the same. Also, what works fine in my gun may be too hot for yours. I have no problem putting a hot round in my M70, but would not want to try it in something like a levergun or autoloader without backing off the charge a bit and working up slowly.

Just be careful everyone. thumbs up

Agreed. None of us ever post the case volume we are using. I have had bad experiances changing brands of brass without changing my load. I used to use 42.7 gr of RL15 with a 168 SMK in my .308 using Win brass and primers. I switched to some of the Nosler custom brass one time. That stuff is apparenlty very thick. Just changing the cases used, and nothing else upped the pressure to primer pocket expanding case ruining levels, with what had been a mild load.
Very few of us ever list the COAL of the loads we post either. You can throat out a .308 win .200 hang the bullets way outta the case and run loads that will be neck and neck with a 300WSM. Try that same load in a normally throated .308 and you are going to have problems. I never post the data I use in some of my "cheater" guns as it would be very dangerus in a SAAMI chambered gun.

ALWAYS START LOWER.....some of us post these loads based upon memory....MEMORY IS A DANGEROUS THING......always check these loads against reliable data, or at least consult a powder burn rate chart to make sure someone has not "remembered" the wrong powder, it happens. You stick 66 grains of VV550 in a 7MAG with a 168 berger and it is going to be way hot. 66 grains of VV560 is a decent load on the warm side, but it is very easy to mis-type 550 rather than 560. Especially, if you have typing skills like mine. 4831 4350 4007 all those numbers have a way of getting jumbled....be careful.
